You've seen the trailers, and read many accounts of the game played at trade shows like E3 and Gamescom, and in just a few weeks, Star Wars: Battlefront is coming for four days as a beta on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Starting on October 8 and ending on October 12, players can check out three different game modes in the beta: Walker Assault, Drop Zone and Survival Mission. The biggest of the three modes is Walker Assault, pitting two groups of 20 players against each other on the icy world of Hoth, with one side attempting to break through enemy lines with Imperial troops and huge AT-AT Walkers while the Rebels try to stand fast in the trenches against invading forces.
If you're looking for something smaller, you can participate in eight-versus-eight matches on the planet Sullust in Drop Zone, where you fight to control escape pods as they drop from the sky; or you can survive multiple waves of enemies with a friend in a Survival Mission on Tatooine.
Players will be able to bring their character progression up to level five. However, don't get too attached, as the stats will not carry over to the final game. However, there will still be items available to unlock during that time. Obviously, Walker Assault and Drop Zone require an Internet connection to play, but for those on PS4 and Xbox One, Survival Mission can be played through local, split-screen cooperative gameplay.
In addition to the game beta, the developers are also testing the Star Wars: Battlefront Companion, an online browser experience that allows players to play Base Command, a strategic card game that provides in-game to unlock various items in Star Wars: Battlefront. The Companion is also used to find friends, check the stats of your character, and customize its appearance and weapon loadouts.
For PC gamers, you can pre-load the beta via EA's Origin service starting at 1am PDT on October 7. The entire beta game is close to 11 GB in size. The console version is smaller than the PC counterpart at 7 GB. Those on the PS4 and Xbox One will be unable to pre-load the game before the start of the beta period.

Alpha was fun but was only the Hoth map,I am really looking forward to Beta.

Visually stunning. I got bored of drop zone real quick (death match with single objective in middle). Game play feels like zoomed in 3rd person shooter. Maybe other modes will be better. Need latest drivers to play. 

I don't see this game being a hot seller on the PC.

You can play in third person mode by holding c. 

Try drivers 355.82 with the game. It performs amazingly guys and gg on Dice not doing a repeat of Bf4 launch

Tried that too. Since this is beta and not finished product are there any plans for server browser or we have to suffer through match making?
 
Running NVidia 960 on 1440p with all settings high and ambient occlusion on low and getting 52 fps on average.

EA/DICE has already said no server browser for SW:Battlefront. It will use skilled base matchmaking. Be ready for one sided matches.
 
I don't see any way of adding a home server to play on, that will make renting a dedicated pointless. Who's going to pay to rent a dedicated server if they can't play on.

Yeah. I will not be buying this one. The demo is boring and matchmaking? No thank you, EA! These just get better and better every year. 
(By demo, I mean the beta... It is obvious they used this as a demo, they included an annoying "would you recommend this to a friend" survey.)

I really hope that this isnt a sign of future Battlefields and lack of server browsers. I REALLY wished they would get back to BF2 with the in-game browser. Im so sick of having to completely shutdown the game to server hop etc. I honestly dont care 1 bit about the Origin social features. Never used them and dont care to. I talk to my friends in voip or ingame.

I played it for a bit yesterday, might play it a bit later on. Game plays as a shooter on the PC which is sure to make it popular.

Just because it plays as a shooter, doesn't mean it will be popular on the PC. Look at how bad Hardline flopped, it played as a shooter.
 
The spawn system in it is bad, it doesn't allow you to pick where you want to spawn. You spawn wherever it wants to place you or you select spawn on a partner. The game will spawn you right in front of the enemy to give them free kills.
