Just a heads-up for anyone trying to build a mini-ITX build using Z170 Stinger and a small case like the Corsair 250D.
The Corsair H100i GTX will not fit in the case with the EVGA Z170 Stinger - there is simply not enough room between the top of the motherboard and the radiator fans.
The Corsair H100i (non GTX, older model) will fit as it is 3mm less wide.. until you try to plug in the CPU power cord. The CPU power port is right on the very edge of the motherboard... that would be fine, except when you plug in the cord there, the securing clip that holds it in place sticks out beyond the edge of the motherboard and rubs against the fan. If the port was rotated 180 degrees it would work, but that's a design issue.
The only options are
- cut off the securing clip on the power cord (probably not a good idea, but I took this option)
- get thin 5mm fans (not ideal because of performance issues)
- just mount a single 120mm or 140mm radiator at the front of the case instead (not ideal because of decreased performance)
Very frustrating.
Also the Z170 cover over the rear ports blocks the radiator, so had to remove it.
Also no USB header for the H100i.. just a big USB3.0 header for the case USB ports.
Starting to reconsider this entire build.
Should've done more homework.
Here's an example with a different motherboard and the H100i in the 250D case, so you know what I'm talking about.
