I am going to be doing a budget/special purpose build for my Music studio. Due to the space, I had to ether go with a HTPC or cube style case. I ended up giving my wife my old case that was used and decided to do some upgrading. Since this is only going to be used for audio recording I don't need anything real fast or complex. A Dual core would actually work with onboard graphics but there was a special on this quad core but will have to use this old Asus 8400gs (which is great because it is passive so no noise!) Here are the parts that are on the way;

Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
CPU- AMD (Yeah, I know but it was cheap) FX 4130 Black edition 3.8 Quad Core
CPU Cooler- Arctic Alpine 64 Pro
Ram- 8 gigs Crucial Ballistix
PSU- Apevia 500w with black sleeved cables
GPU- Asus 8400 GS passive
and last but not least is the coolest case for a Micro Atx!

This beast can be customized in so many ways. The side panels are all interchangeable and can accommodate all different types of fans. It comes with two vented panels with a cool black magnetic mesh to keep out the dust which can be easily removed for cleaning, one windowed panel and the bottom panel that also has room for fans as well as a psu vent with removable mesh filter.
Right now, only the case is here so I started with removing all the panels and installing the PSU. The rest of the parts should be here by the weekend.

The main goal for this aside from Audio recording and editing is to be as quiet as possible. Hence the name "Quiet box of Noise" get it... It has a huge 200mm intake fan that I will probably need to find some type of small inline controller to turn it down a few rps for the noise and I was thinking about a 120 or 140mm fan on each side and then another in the rear to exhaust. I am thinking about either doing a traditional gray and black carbon fiber look or maybe a black and white look with purple or blue leds. Man, I can't help but geeking out when I get a new case!

Some parts finally arrived and even though I was reluctant, I decided to paint the heat spreader on the ram. It's plasti dip so if anything goes wrong, I can just peel it off. I have read that some people have been concerned over if paint or plasti dip would effect the temps acting as an insulation. Since the coat is so thin, if it did, it would be almost insignificant, especially since everything will be at stock clocks.

I have read some reviews on this case and some have stated that the front 200mm intake fan needs to be turned down due to sound. I was originally going to put a cheap inline potentiometer on it but I figured that it would be nice to control all the other fans as well. I have a few fan controllers laying around but I really didn't feel like hacking up a good case and every location seemed like an eyesore so I decided to use the empty void between the psu and motherboard to make a panel that I would mount the fan controller to and hide all the wires. I figured this system is pretty much going to be set and forget and it is so easy getting in the panel that inside would be just fine. I went a little big on the one wiring hole just for 2 sata cables (and maybe fan wires too) but I wanted to keep it somewhat symmetrical and that 24 mobo pin is a beast. I don't have the patience to re do all 24 wires for the sake of a slightly smaller hole.

I secured the panel with some strong industrial double stick tape since it doesn't really need to be secured real good and it makes for a cleaner install. I still need to do the knobs and I am still waiting on my lighting, fans, firewire card and most importantly, cpu cooler....

Well, my cpu cooler came and this is the first thing I noticed on the thermal paste....

That is not my fingerprint. Not a big deal so I installed it and fired it up.

It looked ok but the fan was by far the loudest thing in the room. I measured it at almost double the advertised sound level specs. Not sure where they take a sound measurement from but I was getting almost 40db from about a foot away which is WAYYY to loud. Temps were not all that great either.

I returned that turd and ordered one of these
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200069R

The reviews were not that great but it seemed mostly because of the fan or installation issues. I took the fan off and put an Enermax silent fan with Enlobal bearings along with some old arctic silver thermal paste. It is as silent as you can get. My idle temps are in the low 40's but they may get a little better after it cures.

I painted the panels (plasti dip) and I am just kind of waiting to see about maybe moving my current monitor to the studio and buying a new 1440P for my main rig. Got a usb wireless adapted and a firewire card installed. Putting in some purple lights and fans and I'm almost done!

    FINISHED!

Corsair 120 purple fans can get a little loud at full speed but I don't even really need them on more that 1/4 speed at most.

Just got done mounting the 27" and 24" monitors. This system is DEAD quiet! Also got a matching black and white wireless keyboard. Wish Evga X3 mouse was white and there's no way I am pulling my X5 from my main rig. Maybe I will try and paint it, not sure. System is broken in and idle cpu temps are as low as 22 degrees.

I am thinking of looking for a cool black and white mouse pad and some other finishing touches to finish it off.

Very nice!  Some good old spray paint and creativity can really pep up a build.
