Definitely interested to know what the final resolution will end up being.... That's kind of the deciding factor for me.

you're only looking at the unit. it needs a pc also.  The goal is to offer this technology together with PC for $1500. bolded that section from your link. they planned to make this a common product for the masses.  people here already have a pc that can run it but the average person doesn't.  assuming the one sony makes cost the same price.  the unit plus the ps4 would only set them back 900.  which is why the 1500 price will hurt them. the only way this catches on is if it is cheap enough for the masses to jump on board. companies will not to spend money making games for a product if there is a very limited customer base.

That is misdirection. That would be like saying a 4k UHD display costs $1500.

It has a lot to do with playing style but actually participating within multi-player VR content is pretty awesome. I'm most excited to see Eve Valkyrie be finally available soon. Looks like a lot of fun.

Would be cool if I could handle the VR thing. My fibro, I could see myself pass out,

    "yo Joe!"

I hope these guys cover their legal butts, I love the idea, and I could see others, like with seizures, go down face first. I remember VR back in high school was really a pop culture, and us geeks/nerds were shunned, now I just laugh. Heck, didn't even have cell phones, and unless you were a nerd, u didn't have internet, and most didn't know what a BB was...

I wish they would also have some form of running pad to go with this. I would love to play BF4 with a oculus plus running pad. Would be a great workout. Hell, even DayZ would be worth playing again. I could get my 20lbs lost goal done in a month, haha.

    My Laptop (GE63VR-7RF):
    -7700HQ.
    -16GB RAM.
    -GTX 1070.
    -128GB SSD.
    -1X 1TB 7200 spinny drive.

We just need star trek's holodeck already. I'm afraid people would just get addicted to that then...

VR is best suited for seated content. Your sense of balance is all messed up in VR while standing unless you have a full body sensor setup like PrioVR.

Also, the title for this thread is misdirection by rjohnson11. It's the next version, not the final version. It would be like saying the GTX980ti was the final version of a Nvidia card.

It is the final version which means it's out of the beta testing phase.

Since when did Oculus state an "alpha" and "beta" testing phase? The duct tape prototypes, DK1, Crystal Cove, DK2 and Crescent Bay were never given such a label. CV1 is merely the next version they're releasing. Oculus uses an iterative development process. There'll be more Rifts after CV1.

Didn't see where anyone posted an update to this - &  didn't want to make a new thread , so....

    http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-10-02-oculus-rift-will-cost-more-than-USD350

$350.00 +  sounds ridiculously high to me , but that's what you guys get.

"We're roughly in that ballpark... but it's going to cost more than that," says Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey

    Oculus VR
Oculus VR's Rift headset will cost more than $350, according to founder Palmer Luckey, putting the price-point at the very top or even above the company's initial estimate.

Speaking to Road To VR at the Oculus Connect conference, Luckey responded to a query about whether the Rift's price would be in line with its $350 developer kits.

"You know, I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. We're roughly in that ballpark... but it's going to cost more than that," he said.

Oculus hasn't optimised around achieving the lowest possible price, Luckey explained, instead making, "no compromises...in terms of quality." The Rift's main components - lenses, displays, tracking - are all custom designed, and the company decided to sacrifice cost savings that would mean even a 10 per cent reduction in quality of experience.

"I can't tell you that it's going to be $350, and I would say I think people are going to be happy with what they get for the price because I really do think it's going to be that best VR headset you can buy."

Valve may well contest that point. Between the Rift, PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, HTC and Valve's headset is the only one that has tracked hand controllers included in the basic package, principally because they make the VR experience, "exponentially better." Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Valve's Chet Faliszek explained that the company views their mandatory inclusion as "important" for creating the best user experience.

That won't be the case with the Oculus Rift, which isn't even shipping its Touch controllers until the quarter after the RIft launches. PlayStation VR will be the same, though Sony can at least rely on some customers already having Move controllers.

So, the VR experience that Oculus is most excited about - the one only accessible with Touch controllers - will cost even more than the RIft's $350-plus price-tag. It should also be noted that this is at the very top end of the $200 to $400 range that Oculus estimated when it finalised specs for the consumer version.

$500 is perfectly acceptable to me for something that is the first consumer product of its kind. But I'll only be happy with it if they manage to make the screen door effect extremely minimized, or ideally not there at all.

if its cheaper than a top of the line iPhone/Android then im fine with that. Considering you're looking at a magnified cellphone screen but packed with so much potential... Im ok between $300-$500

My Lg G3 was $0.01 with a plan from AT&T, google cardboard is under $20. I never used Oculus rift but it would have to be WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than Google cardboard for me to spend any money on it.

It's largely irrelevant unless they get more and better content. No need to have something unless it has content people want to use.

Which means you were paying AT&T every month for your LG G3, if we're going to do comparisons then we shouldn't allow subsidized costs.

Only for the service, which actually, my parents are paying for it because they get some discount through their plan. The phone was a penny outright. No hidden costs and was not added. My mom was also able to haggle the cost of our data plan somehow. She has always been a pro at bargaining. . My point was that almost everyone has a smart phone so the cost of cheap VR is under $20. I guess if you had a stupid blackberry or weird flip phone, it wouldn't work but those people that own those deserve not to have a vr experience. lol

if its cheaper than a top of the line iPhone/Android then im fine with that.

I guess if you had a stupid blackberry or weird flip phone, it wouldn't work but those people that own those deserve not to have a vr experience. lol

Your phone costs a penny outright. ... right...

End your service with them and see what they say. LOL. They'll slap you with a huge early contract termination fee and then send a bill for the phone if you don't return it to them.

Sorry that you have to copy and paste it. This forum didn't like the link code with that filter query string in the URL and I was too lazy to html encode it all manually on my phone.

We actually cancelled our service about 3 years ago and switched carriers for a bit. There was supposed to be an early cancellation fee but it was waved. I still have the phone from when we did that in my junk drawer. It is a crappy Sony Ericsson. I guess there are ways of doing things in this world where the consumer wins. Not to often but it happens.
