Hey there EVGA people!

Well I was wondering if I should go on with my purchase or wait for Broadwell and Pascal, to come out.

I played the waiting game for a long time and currently running a xfx 280, and only 3,5 of my ram works. I can't remember my cpu but its back from 2008ish Quad core. Its toaster.

Going big and got a sweet deal with 5% off on all hardware. Going with Rampage Extreme V - 5960x - 980 ti sli.

But is it shooting myself in the foot buying now?

I'm waiting, but it sounds like your PC needs replacing.

If you need the PC for something other than gaming, I would, in your shoes, replace pieces to get it to work and wait.

You need a total rebuild from the ground up. First get a budget, then members can help you decide which parts to get.

Q1 2016 is when Broadwell-E and Pascal are expected to launch. Doesnt seem like its worth the wait for broadwell-E but pascal has just over 2x the transistors and the big jump to HBM2 VRAM. Its the GPUs that are worth the wait above all else. So maybe just upgrade everything but your vid card and then go all out when pascal hits the scene.

I am 100% sure what I want in my build and already "build it". I am just having second thoughs of buying now, but thanks alot for wanting to help with it! :D

As for Pascal - Q3 2016 is the earliest date I've heard thus far. Could be after that if a delay occurs, so says the rumors I hear. Broadwell isn't set in stone either so yeah.

My headache is if its Q1 then it isn't that bad, if its later then that. Then its a headache cause I don't wanna waste cash on a sinking ship which is my current computer. I got the cash to build somthing awesome. But I see it as an investment, so don't wanna buy just before somthing all new "important" comes out.

IMO the 4790k with a Z97 motherboard is the best bang for your buck with a built in boost to 4.4 GHz. It is a proven stable platform and this is the first time I didn't get the itch to have the latest and greatest from Intel. I will be perfectly happy with my setup for years to come. The price of a Skylake 6700k is through the roof and availability is questionable for what seems to be a long time coming.

If you are going to be using this new system for regular browsing the web and playing PC games a Z97 or Z170 platform is the way to go... You don't really gain gaming performance on the X99 platform until you get into 3+ GPU's.

    Main PC | Secondary PC
    Intel i9 10900K | Intel i7 9700K

MSI MEG Z490 ACE | Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master
