I know the systems are a fair bit old, but I think that's a reason to keep them going sometimes :) I've managed to find a 'set' of my favourite setups and I'm hoping to keep them! I'll just shut up now and let the pics do the talking :) Before I put up the next one, I found an SR2 build I had that badly needed a make over?.... Well I hope this is a bit better now... And altogether now.... Please feel free to post and share your thoughts and comments :) A big build is planned after I sort out a lot of issues I have going on at the moment and I hope that when they are sorted, I can post a new thread up with a new build of similar madness :)

Thank you for your kind words :) The 3 way and 4 way SLI boards have a very good 920 D0 in each, both are LinX stable (20 runs, 4Gb ram min usage) at around 4.5Ghz. I'm still impressed with them to this day as they (touch wood!!) don't appear to have degraded at all as the same voltages are still ok to be using. It's not bad considering they have spent most of their life at this speed!! I never realised how much power these things can get through but they are just so good I don't care!! The EVGA GTX 580's in the rigs are 3Gb models. I used to have 3 x 30" Dell 3008 panels and I used to game at 8064 x 1600, the 580's where brilliant! Bit slower now but for 1080P gaming which I do at the moment (I sold my Dell screens a while ago) they are perfectly fine. I'm actually hoping to change them to GTX 970's at some point but I'm in no rush at all :) The SR2 rig was a very much spare of the moment thing.. I saw it on Ebay, had to travel 400+ miles to pick it up, but for what's in there and the power it has, it's amazing! Only two X5650's and a massive 48Gb of ram in there with two of my MSI Lightening 7970's, it's really is a monster of a system! I'm so pleased to share these three amazing systems with you all. I know they are old tech, but I just look forward to keeping an eye out on what Skylake E is going to be like, as I will be building a new complete system when things have calmed down and settled at my end, well, when I have some money spare as well! :) I look forward to some help spec'ing up that one!! :)

I remember 3GB models, my is normal 1.5 GB. With overclock i7-920 you get same as some more expensive model i7-950 example.

Very nice selection, and great looking builds. I really like the DDen cases! On the SR2 by the res. is that a drain in the bottom? Great idea if so.. :) Quite a nice improvement on the SR2! Thanks for showing us your builds.

Great looking rigs! I like classic cars so I suppose that is also why I like classic PC mods as well.

Many thanks to all those that have replied :) I'm very happy that this little project of mine has has such a nice and warm response. @ Vlada011 - I choose the 3Gb models over the 1.5Gb model for the res as I mentioned before. The 580's where such an improvement over the 5870/5970's I had before that, it was a massive improvement for performance at that massive res. I also realise I was very lucky with the 920 CPU's as I have had a massive overclock with each of them!! I'm currently re-testing the 762 setup at the moment to see if I can push it any further for its LinX stability but 4.545Ghz seems to be it at the moment with the volts I wish to use which is heading up to 1.5vcore. I think the 759 setup, will hit a similar limit. I'm currently working for the lowest volts possible for 4.2Ghz for everyday use even though both of these rigs have been running at 4.5Ghz for the past 3+ years I've had my house and the PC's built :) @ notfordman - I always put a drain in any of my water cooling builds as I hate the fact that draining a loop is the most frustrating thing without one!! When I took the SR2 apart from the first picture of it, I was scared stiff of damaging the board and so I had to be so careful with it, I just didn't want to damage it.. I hoped that this way would be the best way of doing it, the only problem I have got now is empting the 7970's as they hold water and it doesn't come out when you undo the drain at the bottom!! Thanks again for all the kind words. I'm so very pleased to have got a chance to have these and for some reason, I don't think I'll be selling any of them!! I think my only real plans are putting a GTX 970 in both of the 759 and 762 :) That said, I do have some more ram coming for my 762, which will put it up to 12Gb instead of the current 6Gb it has :) I look very much forward to sharing my upgrade thoughts when everything is sorted out for me. I'm sad to say it will be a long time till I get anywhere near that but, when I do I will do my utmost to make it one stupidly upgraded rig :D I'd love to try a new twin CPU system, but I think that'll be a dream pipe as sadly since the SR-X I don't recall there being another twin socket overclocking board.. Maybe one day eh? :)

What is your favorite RIG? I like that first with EKWB waterblock on X58... I plan to build watercooling with silver compression fittings and black shine tubes.

I think really I have to respect the SR2 for being a massive power house... Not to mention a massive power sucking house!! It'll munch through any render or anything without even thinking twice and it's got the more basic of hex cores installed. I've toyed with the idea of changing it out for a newer and faster pair of Xeon's but I'm not sure it's even worth it! The 759 was the first of them I had, I have to respect it as I've had it for 6 years and it's never missed a beat :) I'm trying to get it stable with an overclock at the moment as I'm learning about it again but it's proving to be a pain in the bottom!! However, I think the crown goes to the 762 because of the quad SLI and the fact the water block is in one single piece  The CPU in it runs fantastically well and I am dead impressed with it. I think if I could afford to replace both of the 580's in each of them I would change them to 970's as they are such a great bang for buck card and it would definitely give these 920 D0's another boost of performance to help them cope with what's around today :) I mean I had a 4770k and before I switched, I noticed that the 920 D0 @ 4.5Ghz was as fast or faster in some cases compared to the 4770k.. Yes I could overclock the 4770k, but I was kinda expecting a bigger jump in performance than I had.. Efficiency is one thing, but I want more raw power!! Gaming is all I really do and it doesn't bother me how fast something decodes or how fast a video is edited.. If I wanted it done faster, I'd turn on the SR2!! But still, just can't get rid of them, just too 'special' to me :)

I recommend you to upgrade on some 250-300$ worth X99 motherboard and i7-5820K. Or even better if you didn't upgrade in past months wait than new socket and Skylake E. But you need to hope to Intel repeat same as i7-5820K. I would not upgrade on X99 with some models as i7-3820 and i7-4820... I even didn't pay attention on them, for 4 cores is much better than to use Z platform... But when Intel start to sell i7-5820K for symbolic higher price, something little, just to say it's few bucks more X99 instantly become better option. No one plan to keep Extreme on 3.0-3.5GHz, people keep them on 4.0-4.2-4.4 GHz and then advantage is obvious. I'm not sure how Xeons work for everyday gaming, surfing, etc... Now Intel sell 18 cores Xeons...Dual Xeons 36 cores and 128GB 2400MHz DDR4 Quad Channel. Two CPU + motherboard + memory 20.000$. But for me is much nicer i7-5960X overclocked on good motherboard with 8x8GB DDR4 2800MHz C15 on 1.2V. People like to Intel launch Skylake E in 2011-3... I would like to launch in new socket. Anyway even if they install Skylake E in X99 motherboards they will not get better and stronger chipset and that's half of importance why someone build new platform. And when new socket show up chances for improvements are bigger. If Intel launch X190 with 2011-3 that mean they will optimize performance improvements only with clock and reason for upgrade will be only chipset, and that's bad.

Well I have been looking into a replacement for my X79 rig as I have sold that to a friend (4960X + 16Gb + Asus Deluxe) and I was looking into a a Skylake system, but I was also suggested a 5820k system as for the same money for the CPU, it seemed a bit silly not having a couple more cores... Never say no to power!! :D I have the rigs above more so for show pieces really, but I do use them :) The Xeon's I have seem to clock fairly well but because of the sheer amount of ram in the system, I can't push it much further than 3.6Ghz across all 24 threads because of the 48Gb of ram! I think I might be missing something there to help clock it further... I won't be buying a dual Xeon system unless EVGA release a better version of the SR2 as from the little I read, the SR-X was a little disappointing and SR-X owners, please don't shoot me for saying that!! The every day rig I will use the X99 system, as I'm sure it will be powerful and plenty enough for what I want it for. It's bloody overkill really but, meh :D As for my next big gaming rig, I will be getting something silly, but that's not going to be for a long time :) The Z170/X99 rig I will build soon will do until then I'm sure :) Sleinous many thanks for your kind words!! They have been and will be around with me for a while!! :D
