I noticed on ASRock's new Z170 board that it has a rear M.2 slot due to how crowded the Z170 boards are in Mini-ITX. Not really an issue if you just want to use a flat M.2 SSD, but if you want to use their M2 to U.2 adapter to use an Intel 750 SSD then the plug would stick down too far and hit the tray.

Is that rectangle cutout right below the CPU meant for this, or is the location a coincidence and it still might not line up?

    The cutout isn't a coincidence, I think.
It would appear as if the M.2 SSD on my motherboard (mounded under the mobo, much like yours), wouldn't fit were it not for the cutout.
The raised CPU tray, erm, thing, is for mounting the EVGA mITX cooler however.

I took the liberty to look more into this by physically inspecting the Hadron we have here and I can confirm that using that expansion module will not work because the "cut out" is not removable unfortunately.
