Hello yesterday I built my HTPC with an EVGA stinger board. Pretty cool, it fits perfectly into the Streacom F1C Evo chassis... Also I can confirm now that the Noctua l9i fits onto the stinger as well as into this chassis :)

My only problem now is that I can't get audio over HDMI to work and I am out of ideas. I did a clean install of Windows 8.1, I tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver. I tried to connect the HDMI cable directly to my TV instead of the Bose Lifestyle entertainment system etc. ! I even disabled the onboard sound card to avoid any conflicts. But it always tells me that the are no audio devices installed.

In the device manager everything is ok... I can also see the HDMI Devices in the video sound and game controller section... but only if I enable "show hidden devices". When I click on them they tell me that there is nothing connected to it - but why? I get the video perfectly fine over my TV so yes HDMI is definately connected and working. But I am not sure what I miss here? Searching for problems with Intel HD Graphics and HDMI I find some issues but none of these fits mine...!

Maybe someone of you has had a similar problem or can help me out?

Thanks in advance,
Oliver

I begin to believe that the evga z87 stinger may not give audio output over its HDMI port? Maybe this is a bios issue? I am running v1.02.

After several hours of more testing I am pretty confident now that this is a bios issue. Is anyone able to check if he can get HDMI audio output over the integrated graphic HDMI port of this board?

I tried to check the different bios options but I don't find anything related to this... please can you guys look into that - since I have built a HTPC with your board I really need the integrated HDMI audio output to work otherwise the board would be totally useless to me :(

    Thanks again,
    Oliver

So just as a follow up... after several more hours of investigation I finally managed to get the HDMI audio working... - never give up never surrender ;) !!!

And yes, I was right... it is a BIOS issue... all I had to change was the Graphics Boot BIOS Mode setting from UEFI mode back to Legacy Mode !? Not sure if this a bug with this board or the intel onboard graphics adapter... but in UEFI mode the graphics adapter doesn't pass through any HDMI audio signal... as soon as you set the bios to legacy mode, the audio pass through works totally fine!

Maybe this can help someone who encounters the same issue :)

    Kind regards,
    Oliver

Hmm hope this will be fixed in a future BIOS update

So you are using the onboard HDMI graphics/audio?

    Hello Jacob,

yes I am using the onboard HDMI graphics port. The audio chip is disabled, since I don't need any audio on the audio ports. I am just using the audio over HDMI. The strange thing is that if I set the graphic BIOS mode to Legacy Mode, all is fine. As soon as you switch the option to UEFI mode, the audio is not working anymore -> no devices for HDMI audio are found (in device manager you can see that they are hidden and say - hardware not connected...).
So this was really haaaaard to find because at beginning I switched all BIOS to UEFI mode. Not sure if this bug is related to the onboard graphics card from intel or if its a bug in the stinger?

    Kind regards,
    LD

If you decide to update to 1.04 BIOS please report back if issue is corrected, or not.

Recently tried to get audio working again, and saw this thread.

I upgraded to BIOS 1.09 and still have this issue. I am unable to find the "Graphics Boot BIOS Mode" setting, the closest I can find is: Boot > CSM > Launch Video OpROM Policy (Do not launch, UEFI Only, Legacy Only). It was set to Legacy and isn't working. So a couple years later I'm still unable to use my HTPC for its intended purpose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was able to resolve this by manually installing the Intel Display Audio driver as in these steps:

Download the "Intel HD Graphics" driver for the motherboard here:
\Downloads\Z87_Intel Graphics v15.31.9.3165\Intel Graphics v15.31.9.3165\Intel® HD Graphics Driver - 64 Bit\win64.zip needs to be unzipped

Then right clicking "High Definition Audio Device" under device manager and installing driver by selecting the win64/DisplayAudio folder.

The audio drivers aren't installed when updating the display drivers for whatever reason.
