I've posted that pic in the Laughed So Hard thread. :P

bdary Here's my accumulated (do not install) list from last fall. Some of these are related to upgrading your Win7/8.1 to Win10 and some are tracking (telemetry) installs. KB3035583 KB2952664 KB2976978 KB2990214 KB3068708 KB3022345 KB2952264 KB3021917 KB3050265 KB2977759 KB3065987 KB3075851 KB3075249 KB3080149 KB3044374
Thanks for the list. I'm just now trying out Windows 10 and when I do Windows Updates, it automatically selects and installs updates. Is there a way to change it to where I select what gets installed? I also do not see a way to uninstall updates either. Thanks for the help.

With Windows 10 you do not get a choice as to which updates you are able to install unless you use their application to prevent the driver updates. Beyond that you are at Microsoft's behest and have no choice as to installing them, just 'when' to install them and only if you are using the Pro/Enterprise edition which allows the delaying. If you are on the home edition you will update when they are released.

I'm using Pro and figured out the metering updates deal. Sucks you have no choice in what updates get installed. I did grab the tool I think you're referring to on the driver update deal. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 EDIT:<--- Just found out you can use this before you run Windows Update and select which updates you do not want! Also figured out how to uninstall updates.

1 - disable automatic updates in Windows Update settings 2 - run Windows Update (click update button, as auto update is disabled ) and select all updates (important ones and optional) 3 - install all updates 4 - write a batch file, using wusa commands : for example : wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708 /norestart add as many lines as you need for every kb package 5 - run the batch file, it will uninstall the updates you want to ban 6 - restart Windows 7 - re-run Windows Update : it will try to reinstall the previously uninstalled updates : just right click and hide them. It's far more easy and faster than searching through hundreds lines in the updates history and uninstalling them manually ! 8 - You're done with KBxxxxx. For Windows 10, if you want to disable many Telemetry things, use http://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 . With this too you CAN disable Windows 10 updates. If you disable it and then re-enable, you will probably have to manually reset Windows Update Service to auto in Service Manager. If you want to block Telemetry communications, you will find lists of domain names using Google (some have stupid lines, attempting to redirect an IP : remember, hosts file can only redirect a domain to an IP, not an IP to an IP) ; file to be edited : \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. You can also block these IP's using a router .

wusa is the Windows installer for kb packages (Windows Update Standalone Installer. It will uninstall the specified KBxxxx using some switches and parameters. It is faster : install all KBxxx using Windows Update, then run the uninstaller batch. No need to check updates, just some gogle-ing from time to time. Today, I just installed two fresh Windows 7 : do you imagine searching a dozen KBxxx among 250+ updates ? So I install all, then uninstall the unwanted ones using the batch file, then re-run Update : Windows Update gives a list, and BTW this list is exactly the unwanted list as they have been previously removed . I simply right click "hide" for all and get rid of them forever, except one that comes again and again : KB3065987 (upgrade to 10 as far as I remember) ! It takes a few minutes, and no need to read endless update lists (200 from a Win7 SP1 at the first Windows Update, and about 50 more after a few reboots !!!) Sorry for my bad english... It makes simple things difficult to explain... The best source for all this stuff is probably My Digital Life Forums.

I'm not into installing stuff, then uninstalling that stuff. I like to keep my OS drive written to at the least amount possible. The way I setup Windows, my OS drive becomes a read only drive once all installing is done. Yes new games and drivers will get written to it now and then, but on the norm, my OS drive just sits there and gets read from. The list Bdary provided is pretty short. I just put them in numerical order and look down the update list (Windows 7) and hide them so they do not get installed. Win 10 I use that tool they provide, look at the update list an put a check mark next to the ones I do not want installed. Different strokes for different folks.

There have been reported instances where the telemetry and data collection updates return even when hidden. Be careful on any updates for Windows 7/8/8.1 from here on out. Microsoft is overriding the 'hide' settings on these particular KB updates.

Possibly if someone was running automatic updates, doubtful when doing updates manually. I have yet to see an update installed that I have hidden and I do my updates manually.

I never use auto updating in my Win7 OS and yet have seen a few of my previously hidden items (updates) reappear when I've done a manual check for updates later on. So I still scrutinize every update MS sends me that isn't a security update.

None that I saw, except the ones pertaining to GPU. I read as much as I could and there was a mention that some older games might no longer run if the security updates were installed. I had a total of 26, but had a lot of updates for Office 2010. KB3086255 KB3087039 Check them out...

I installed all of them (security related). Of the two that weren't security, KB3083324 I didn't install until I can review it further. I don't see any driver updates listed as I have those disabled. In Win7 >> Control Panel >> System >> Advanced System Settings >> Hardware tab >> Device Installation Settings >> Then you'll see some options. I have mine set to "Never install driver software with Windows Update".

In Win7 >> Control Panel >> System >> Advanced System Settings >> Hardware tab >> Device Installation Settings >> Then you'll see some options. I have mine set to "Never install driver software with Windows Update".
I have the same settings but I get them anyway with WU set to check but let me decide option. I did get an error and warning about the Circular Kernel Event Trace Logger so I disabled that AGAIN!

bdary I installed all of them (security related). Of the two that weren't security, KB3083324 I didn't install until I can review it further. I don't see any driver updates listed as I have those disabled. Maybe that's the difference. I don't let Windows look at all on it's own. I go in & manually check for updates every few days. Not sure if that's why you're seeing driver updates or not. I never see them...

Zuhl3156 I think I got 11 updates yesterday. They were all listed as Security updates except one for IE-11 and one for Windows Update. Anyone see anything different or anything to worry about?
You're welcome to review the security updates via Microsoft's site to see what each one covers. I would, however, check them individually through Google or Startpage in order to see the specific changes/file updates to ensure they don't slip something in as they have done in the past.

There is a link I can click next to each update before I install it so I can read what it covers. Some of the language can be confusing at times and I'm sure it's not me and no accident either. lol

Sometimes the info they provide through those links can be pretty vague...

Agreed which is why I linked the Security site so you can see which issues it covers and check them out before you install something. I know that understanding just exactly what is being corrected can be a bit confusing but looking at the actual files themselves can also lead you to understand if something like 'compliance.dll' is going to be included.
