There are four updates in question that introduce some severe data collection and tracking features that some users will be uncomfortable with.

1) KB3068708
2) KB3022345 (replaced by KB3068708)
3) KB3075249
4) KB3080149

Here's my accumulated (do not install) list from last fall.  Some of these are related to upgrading your Win7/8.1 to Win10 and some are tracking (telemetry) installs.

Thanks, I already sniped most of those out of my main Windows 7 PC. I did get gutsy and did a clean install of Windows 10 on my spare PC. Hardly any games or other software to reinstall on that one.

Great post!  As things pop up, we should keep it current.  I removed all on the list from my Windows 7 laptop...about 2/3 of them were installed...no more!

Going to take a little while to go though all these and remove them if installed. Are they just "Update for Microsoft Windows" or does this include "Security Update for Microsoft Windows"?

Normally security updates do not include tracking/telemetry data aggregation functions. If one were to have been found the netsec community would have already notified many of the sites relating to this issue. I've scanned through many of the security updates recently and have found nothing there which warrants keeping them from being installed currently.

Now windows 10 stuff is jacking with my Windows 7? From now on, nothing is getting installed unless I NEED it. If Linux wasn't so damn confusing to me, I would jump ship.

I found two that I had missed earlier. The bad news is that several that I had hidden came back like zombies from the dead. I gotta get some of those silver bullets or whatever they use for zombie attacks.

These are the ones I had to hide again:
    KB2990214
    KB3075249
    KB3080149
    KB3075851
KB3065987 was the only one that required a reboot and then I got a warning that Windows never checked for Updates.

I use the process monitor tool in my Panda A/V software.  It monitors and logs all running process and shows what connects to the internet as well as what site it connects to.

When I'm running my Win7 OS, not one thing connects to the internet other than when I manually launch it.  Like when I launch my browser (FF), or check for Aida64 updates, etc...  Nothing automatically goes to MS.  That cannot be said for Win10.  There are still a few processes I haven't been able to kill yet to keep from reporting to MS automatically.

That is the kind of "tracking" we're talking about here.  Or at least I am.  Many of Win10's "phone app" features need to use tracking type software to function properly, I get that.  I just think all these type settings should be "opt-in" and not "opt-out".  At least on a desktop environment.  Turning off settings MS has built in is only half the battle.  I've had to disable several services and change or disable items in the task scheduler as well to stop some of these things.  Along with disallowing things in the firewall.

This exactly. I wish Microsoft would stop implementing the "Windows Phone/Tablet" features into the normal desktop OS and have a seperate OS available for phones/tablets/touch screen computers. I would love just a barebones OS without all the gimicks and "features" that 10 has.

yes and production cost on developers would go up as they have to program for 2 separate platforms  from the same company

That app looks good. The one I used warned that it couldn't be undone if I decided to continue but I used it anyway. I can always do a repair install upgrade to get everything back to normal and start over again.

Something that PC Gamer did a quick article on. Looks handy to take care of things quickly. Mind you, this is for Win 10. http://www.pcgamer.com/use-ultimate-windows-tweaker-to-deal-with-windows-10s-privacy-settings/

Nice looking tool.  I'm going to check it out on my PC.  Thanks for sharing...

In addition to the app suggested I would also recommend creating a hosts file with the following DNS entries to redirect the telemetry connections to a non-routable address so even if the settings change again from Microsoft the hosts entries (providing it is set to read-only) should keep the data from being sent. The list of the necessary entries is here and should be placed in a file called 'hosts' in the appropriate area. This will not, of course, prevent any applications of which the server address is hard coded into the application itself or the IP address is also contained within the application.

I think I used the "Destroy Windows 10 Spying" and it probably did destroy something since it warned the process couldn't be undone.

Here's my accumulated (do not install) list from last fall.  Some of these are related to upgrading your Win7/8.1 to Win10 and some are tracking (telemetry) installs.

I just posted your list of unnecessary updates at MS Answers forum and it has received a welcome response as others were unaware of this privacy attack by MS on Windows 7 and 8 users:

A lot of Windows 7 users showing corrupt files using SFC after these last updates. I was too until I uninstalled all of those snooping updates. Now my SFC comes back clean. There was an update a while back that caused SFC to report corrupt files that were unable to be repaired by MS says there were no corrupt files but the some CAB files were placed in the wrong folder. All we have to go on is SFC to tell us whether our OS is good or not. By the time MS figured out what was going on and responded there were hundreds of thousands of users doing a clean install of Windows 7. I held off since my PC is stable. I was about to give up and reinstall 7 but then I found the official response from MS. A clean install is a PITA for me since it takes days to download and install my current favorite games.

Kind of backwards but now I have all updates turned off and I will go through and see which ones are even worth installing. I spent almost an hour removing windows 10 and windows 7 privacy invading crap yesterday and I think I'm good. Thanks for all this!

I decided to give Windows 10 another shot on my spare budget PC and now I can't restore my Windows 7 System image. I did finally run some benchmarks to make it 1k elegible like that's going to matter. It would be nice to build a romping stomping PC using EVGA parts but that's looking more and more out of reach.  http://www.modsrigs.com/detail.aspx?BuildID=34751
I got the CPU for a mere $10 as a combo purchase with the MSI Z97 PC Mate. It's only a G3258 but raising the multiplier to 42 boosted my WEI from 6.9 to 7.3 so I can't complain too much. I only use it when my main PC is Folding at Home. I use my TV as a monitor and I have to sit cross legged on the floor. Not an easy thing to do for very long at 59 years of age but I'm tough and can handle it. LOL

Now windows 10 stuff is jacking with my Windows 7? From now on, nothing is getting installed unless I NEED it. If Linux wasn't so damn confusing to me, I would jump ship.
