Hey guys,
This is my first show and tell build. I had purchased all the parts to build this bad boy inside of Dondan's A4 but my tour overseas will probably be over by the time that the case is released so I had to find an alternate home.
Specs!
Lian Li PC-05s
i7-5820k
2x8GB Mushkin Reds @ 3000mhz 15CAS
Crucial 960GB SSD
Asrock x99e-itx/ac
Corsair h100i
Silverstone sx500-lg
EVGA GTX 980 Classy
No optical drive as of now.
I just finished putting everything together and man that was fun/tedious/time consuming/frustrating/this doesn't make any sense. I saw a bunch of reviews and I have some words to contribute.
@Tek Syndicate
- The internals aren't like the old school "I'll cut you if you get near me" type of sharp. The first thing I did when removing the tempered glass was run my finger across all of that sexy little body. There were moments when I got a little "oh ****, she gonna cut me" rush. I would explore those areas a little more with nothing to worry about.
- Psu exhaust placement. You disappoint me a little Tek S. The exhaust goes straight up to where the two 120mm exhaust fans are...not gonna make your system overheat like crazy.
- Tempered glass survived the trip from the egg.com to South Korea!
Personal thoughts.
- AIO's beware. I was barely able to fit the h100i but the rad needs to be installed on the case with the fans underneath it to avoid hose clearance with the psu. I lost the installation manual for the case but I recall there being multiple install points for the psu bracket. If you are using the sx600 with the fun loving 90mm fan then it shouldn't be an issue. But I wanted to stay on the quite side. Well as quite as I can with the almost open case design.
Also, if going with an AIO and the sx500, buy a 90 degree psu cable. It will not fit other wise. I took my trusty pocket knife and made two insertions on both sides of the cable protector thing so I could achieve a sharper bend.
- This is my 4th or 5th itx build and OMG I love the extra space in the back for cable management. The back panel does have a slot for either a 120mm or a 140mm fan to help cool the backside of the mobo. Luckily I already had a deepcool GS120x20mm fan for the job. While there is plenty of space, I recommend something a little slimmer than 25mm just to give the fan a little more room to vent.
- The PCIe riser is a little stiff and I did have to remove the back hdd panel to better maneuver it when I moved up the PCIe riser.
- The Classy...that giant card fit like a charm. I had to bend the psu cables a bit to accommodate the card but it was all within tolerance.
Did I miss anything? Probably. Anyways, tell me what you think and let me know if you have any questions pertaining to the build.
I haven't powered it on yet...I wanted to post this then get some dinner. It's 1945 (7:45pm) over here and man this guy wore me out.
Overclocks, temps, and tests will come soon.
