Im trying to install my new Geforce gtx 970 into my computer but after setting the card into its pci-e x16 slot, plugging in the power cables and hooking the monitor up to the new card the computer wont boot past the very first blue HP screen with the option to hit the esc. key for set up options. At start up i only have a seconds of keyboard respons to hit esc. before the keyboard become unresponsive. Then sortly after the computer beeps once immediately followed by three fast beeps. my computer is a HP pavilion HPE model h8-1010 OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium System type: 64-bit OS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2390T CPU @ 2.70GHz, 2701Mhz, 2 Cores 4 logical processors RAM: 8GB BIOS Version: AMI 7.16 10/5/2011 SMBIOS Version: 2.6 i plugged the card into the power box. I used one 6 pin PCI-e cord and one six pin adapter attached to a peripheral connector going to the power box

You're dealing with a motherboard bios compatibility issue. Updating the bios to a more recent version should correct the issue if one is available.

Then you would need to run a non-uefi vbios on the 970, replace your motherboard with a more up to date one or buy a 600 series or lower card.

This board would be perfect if you could find a brand new one.

300w is plenty to get the card booted to the desktop. Under load is a different story.

300w? No, no, no. Get one at least 750w.

If your mobo doesnt bip in an usually way, it means your card is compatible. I have dealt with "underpowered" in HP computer : I have had the same problem at work ! It starts, beeps once...then black screen I'm 99% sure its a "not enough powerfull" PSU problem : HP provides PSU's with minimum extra watts... I've read that your Radeon HD needs like around 50 W minimum while the 970 need around 150 W to run.

According to this: http://us.driverscollection.com/?H=Pavilion HPE h8-1010&By=HP&SS=BIOS their is a revision 2 bios for your product from 2012 you should get, unfortunately it's not a revision 8 series bios that you need to run most gcards from the 6xx series and above because of the uefi conflict. Also, like Sajin said, your psu May be able to boot you with that card only because the 9 series are so power efficient but it may also fail to boot if it's not a well built unit because of the large power draw on first boot. That psu is waaayyy underpowered for what your trying to do. So you Def have two major issues here. All you can do for now is try to put the newer bios on your pc and then reinstall the 970 and try to boot again but I'm pretty sure it won't work.
