Stardock will be releasing a demo/benchmark tool for dx12 in mid to late august. They are giving it to reviewers first.

3D Mark has an API Overhead test if you're looking to wet your feet with some DX12.

Speaking of DX12... What are your opinions on the "Ashes of the Singularity" outbreak ?!!! I just recently bought 2 GTX 980 Ti's SC+ and I'm very happy with them.

But this DX12 thing ... I just can't let it out of my mind ... I know it's too early to judge based on benchnmarks from a "AMD Biased" developer, but the results are shocking ...

No, they aren't shocking. Just like video games that Nvidia is in with, and they don't allow or code the game to work with AMD, so it looks like garbage until amd can work with it.

It isn't choking at all, it is tactics betweenanufacturers trying to debunk each other's reputation.

Yes You are right. If you see the comments from AMD, one day they are trashing Nvidia, and the other day they are retreating and saying there's no such thing as full DX12 support, after proving or showing their point. It is a very good marketing move from AMD. This game will be fully optimized for AMD. Which will definitely perform better as shown in their benchmarks.

But my concern is this specific feature support, Async Compute. Nvidia drivers report that Maxwell II cards support this feature, but it seems it is not supported on a hardware level. Why did they ask the developer to turn it off ? I can only assume from these events that:

    1. It does not support it on a hardware level.
    2. It does support it on a hardware level and it's a driver/developer problem. (but if this was the case Nvidia would not have asked the developer to specifically turn it off)

I know they said that this game does not indicate DX12 performance at all, which I totally agree with because:

    1. DX12 is still in the works.
    2. The claims are coming from AMD Biased  developer which for sure make AMD look superior and Nvidia inferior.

But I am looking forward on seeing Nvidia's reply about this.

I think we'll see more DX12 demos from various manufacturers in the months to come

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

For now only one DX12 game or application is present, people talk about success of AMD in DX12.
I think that's not so important now, everybody know that first graphic card even if support new DX are not so good as second and third series.
When time come and when nice games show up NVIDIA will again to have better card than AMD in DX12.
Until at least 3-5 really good games show up no reason to look what support DX12 and what not support.

You NEVER buy a GPU for a future version of DirectX. The GeForce 7 series (up through 7900GTX) was the champion of DX 9, until DX 10 and the GeForce 8 series came out. The GeForce 4/ATI Radeon 8000 series were the best at DX 8...and then DX 9 came out.

New versions of DX, even if implemented on older hardware, often bring game changing features and implementations that cause chaos for older hardware. The release of DX12 and the games that will use it won't suddenly invalidate the performance that you have with your current card in current games.

That said, people are so focused on the DX12 issues with Maxwell, they're missing the bigger picture. The Fury X and the 980ti (the fastest cards in each company's stable, when accounting for OC'd 980ti vs. Titan X) are getting roughly 47fps in this game on high settings. Let that sink in for a minute. Forty seven fps.

People who want this game with eye candy are going to be upgrading to new DX12 cards ANYWAY, regardless of current vendor.

Pascal will be real card for DX12... Special big GP100 Pascal... Nice name for chip.
And that card will work with all power. Kepler and Maxwell are kings for DX11.
Even if Maxwell "officially" support DX12 NVIDIA will give some new feature with Pascal.
What mean if card support DX12 if you don't have enough fps. For me that's same like not support.

We don't know yet. There are rumors, but nothing official. For example - to fully use DX12's async capabilities, you need support for both async compute and async shaders. AMD's GCN fully supports both. NV's current support is weaker than expected. RUMORS show Pascal getting better support for async compute, but not async shaders.

Usually most of PC rumors come true. I don't know why but I have a strong feeling that what has been exposed is the truth. AMD making a big fuss about DX 12 performing better on their cards over Nvidia's... Nvidia asking developers to disable certain features (which looks to me like main features) ... and then AMD backs off after one day and say there's no such thing as full DX 12 support and AMD cards does support all features , No official statement from Nvidia up till now ?!!

    Reading following https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feature_levels_in_Direct3D#Direct3D_12
and from that only Microsoft WARP12 and Intel HD Graphics in Skylake has full support for 12_1 feature levels.
AMD GCN only has 12_0 feature levels and Maxwell Gen 2 partial 12_1 feature levels support but enougth to get 12_1.

Lazy or not Lazy. That's not a question.

Re: No NVIDIA dx12 tech demo for download? 2015/09/07 13:24:40 (permalink)
Whole mess about DX12 and NVIDIA.
But I see one bigger problem and that's tendency to NVIDIA write driver only for last architecture.
Because of that mid range could turn them back soon if AMD offer something good with DX12.
But we talk now about some possible scenario and calculations...
When DX11 show up I bought first card and NVIDIA than offer cards with 768MB and 1024MB, my target was card with 2GB.
ATI 5870 was excellent card, but except checked mark DX11 Support he was excellent only in DX9 and some rear DX10 as Crysis and Resident Evil 5 and I can't remember anything more... First time with GTX580 we get something close to playable fps in DX11 with much much better tessellation than ATI 5870. From other side 6970 and GTX480 offer more problems than real gaming.
GTX480 was hot, 6970 was hot and 5-10% stronger than ATI5870 and didn't improve at all situation with DX11. With GTX580 and Tahiti later situation become better. That was 2 years after first support for DX11.
Whole period from first ATI 5870 to HD7970 AMD didn't done nothing except support for DX11 and
they were in much better position than now.
What mean support to look slideshow instead error message. We will see many new games with only DX11 support.
I don't need to talk you that AMD is not capable to move market alone.
NVIDIA can do that, and when time come they will have ready DX12 card.

Because of that is AMD generous with codes and want to share everything with NVIDIA, Mantle and I don't know what...
because NVIDIA keep in had more developers and when they accept something situation become better on market.
But NVIDIA need to stop to leave people with older cards/architecture to rot without support and AMD with weaker cards to offer better fps in new games.
I don't know what customers should do to NVIDIA understand that well.
During whole Pascal period we will not have 10 DX12 games on market.
NVIDIA will fix everything with Pascal but again DX11 will still be main for gaming.

but nvidia is like 3% shy of AMD @ DX12 but is like 30% faster than AMD @ DX11...

so to actually rage and pant about nvidia being slow than AMD on DX12 when there are no games out is pretty insane plus g-sync is too good to never have on a main PC

80-100 FPS feeling like 144fps vs same monitor w/ no gsync and dipping below 144 to say 122 you can feel the difference

I've ran this DX12 Demo on both my 780 Ti and Titan X and it runs flawlessly. Beautiful in DX12 mode, ok in DX11 mode.

Generation after Pascal will be first capable to support highest resolution in DX12 without problem.
Whole mess about DX12 is one more trick similar to statements that Fury X and Hawaii are stronger that TITANs.
When games show up NVIDIA will be stronger again. No nice gaming today without NVIDIA.
How many times I think on AMD only searching for some solution available only for NVIDIA users, example mods, improvements, we could change different things with NVIDIA Inspector, always is some trick available for GeForce owners and for Radeon very rear. If you look gaming trailers you immediately recognize 80% games are better with NVIDIA or offer PhysX or later some new settings show up only available for GeForce owners. Same will be with DX12, I can bet NVIDIA will launch in next 2 years some innovation for their cards, or improved filters, or some new version of AA together with DX12.
