Has anyone tried this thing? It looks sweet. Commercials are neat, that is how to market a tech piece.

In that case I apologize as I misunderstood the context of your post, my mistake sir. Sorry guys.

I actually read an article a year or so ago, the general idea of which was that younger people (I hate saying my generation) don't retain information as well, but are better at remembering how to find it. Wish I could find it to cite specifically but you bring up an interesting point.

I'm not so interested in it for the questions and such, my main interest is just the voice control for music, alarms, etc.

    OMG 😂

I would pay $$$ to have full voice control of the car though.

I'm not super interested in buying one but they look sweet, could be quite handy.

I mean yea, it's neat but at the same time my phone does that same thing. I just have to say: Okay ScORCH and it'll say Go ahead or Yes Neal? Then I'll say how far is the moon and it'll read me the entry and all. I <3 my Droid Turbo.

LOL It's just overpriced for my taste. For $100-120? Yes that would be a way better price range.

I am sorry but, I am just not getting this... Can't most phones do this already? I have only said "Ok google" a few times with my phone and found it easier to just do a web search. Playing music on my phone is literally 2 presses of a button and checking the time requires almost zero effort as well. If I want to do a reminder, I could use an app for free as with an alarm clock.

It seems like it is just a microphone/speaker with wi-fi that googles basic info.

We got it for 50% off during the initial first wave of them.
Have thought of getting another for the kitchen, but wouldn't pay the current price for it,
only if it went on sale.

Being in the automation and control industry, things like this are a bit of a threat honestly.  As more mega companies like Google and Amazon come out with these products that integrate with other "Smart" products, they simplify automation and control of simple home technology, and they do it on such a mass market that the other guys have a hard time competing.  I'll give you an example.  If I wanted to automate a light like in the amazon commercial, I would need the following products from a control company like AMX, Crestron, or Extron.

1x keypad with integrated control processor and control ports
    1x Occupancy Sensor
    1x Wireless gateway
    1x wireless dimmer module

These items retail for close to $1600.  Compare that to the below.

    1x Amazon Echo
    1x Phillips 452714 LED kit

Which retail for a total of $260

    EVGA DG-77/ EVGA 750 G2/ Gigabyte B450/ AMD Ryzen 5 3600/ 16gb Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600/ RTX-2080 XC/ Dell S2716DG / Windows 11 64

I just leave all my lights off at home and in my room I wired led rope into switches installed in my headboard. That way I use way less power with the LEDs and I can easily reach up and turn them off when going to bed.

I was thinking about doing some motion lights in unison with leds in some parts of the house like the garage and hallway. They are so cheap to run that I wouldn't even care if my cats set them on and off all day.

No that you mention it. A motion light in a hallway for example, with leds running along the length of the walls by the floor would be extremely cool.
