So these are the first cards i've had since fermi. 2 evga gtx 680's under water. My question falls with the boost and default clocks being so different. I tried to software clock the slower card to match the faster. which always results in driver crashes. But if i use the slower card in single mode it will clock well past the SOC+ card perfectly stable on stock volts. Is this a Kepler thing that i just can't do anything about? Also will it even benefit to have matching clock tables?

My old 660 gt one sc, and 660 gt what work best for that set up was I stick gt in first clock and then put the SC in the second spot it worked fine. The SC would down clock to match the gt

So that still is not what I'm looking for. I was considering tweaking the clock tables in kepler bios tweaker to match the 2 cards. Since they both individually clock great. Maybe hard coding the bios will get me the boost i would want. Just doesn't make any sense that they both clock very well. But if i barely touch them in sli they they got wonky

Then find another of 680 sc on ebay or on here.. if the card not taking the clock speed that you desire then it's not going to work.. or just flash the cards bios and keep the original bios just in case it doesn't work..

Back with my old GTX 260 SLI, I overclocked the second card to match the EVGA GTX 260 SC speed and they worked well until I replaced that with the GTX 660 Ti FTW Signature 2

Overclocking is usually OK if you are only trying to keep up with a factory OC but getting greedy may overheat your card so be careful

I had a vanilla 680 and a superclocked 680 in SLI. I always had to run matching core clocks in SLI to keep things stable. I put the vanilla board in the top slot and OCed to +100 which was its max stable clock. Then I ran the superclocked board at +20 in the bottom slot. Make sure that the box to 'synchronize settings for similar products' is not checked. I always got the best results with the slower board in the top slot. I never had to flash or mod the BIOS or increase the voltage. Memory clock was always set to +250 MHz.

As I said its better not to get too greedy as the thermal gradients can shorten the service life of the card fast.
My GTX 660 Ti has the dual fan cooler which does help a lot to keep the card cool even though its OC rather aggressively

That is a good general operating temperature, but with a thermal IT camera you can see easily if there are issues. Problem is that IR cameras are not exactly SWAG.
