BIOS 1.03 Updates- Improved memory compatibility
- Improved CPU overclocking
- Various bug fixes
Windows Installation- Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:
151-SS-E179-KR - EVGA Z170 Classified 140-SS-E177-KR - EVGA Z170 FTW 111-SS-E172-KR - EVGA Z170 Stinger- First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
- Close all open programs.
- Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and update.bat
- Press Y to start the flash process
- DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
- After the flashing is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Then power on again and go into BIOS to setup.
- NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be ran from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.
BIOS Installation- Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
- Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
- From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
- Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Hi Jacob BIOS 1.03 includes improved memory compatibility. Are you going to add a suggested memory compatibility list for the Z170 boards? FYI, these G.Skill Ripjaws and these claim to be optimized for the Z170. Any comment on those? Are you able to advise if EVGA has any plans for a second Z170 Stinger with 3DCore sound, like EVGA did with the Z97 Stinger (a WiFi version and a 3DCore version)? Thanks.

fast boot is gone from this new bios? when will we see fast boot reappear and work on the z170 stinger?

When we talk about fast boot, I can say only this... EVGA Z77 FTW + 3770K Boot Time = 11-12 seconds
Rampage 5 Extreme + i7-5820K Boot Time = 20 seconds...But let's say more complicate BIOS and EVGA Z77 FTW boot so fast when I disable Marvell Controller and ESATA, without that she show me 3 times Z77 Logo before boot.

Can I now install windows 7 off of usb/dvd with this bios update? My keyboard and mouse don't work during the installation and with my usb windows 8 Iso it goes straight to bios. Thanks

Make sure your keyboard and mouse are plugged into the USB 2.0 ports, not the USB 3.0 ports. Same thing happens with my X79 Dark - the USB 3.0 ports don't work until I've installed the drivers for them, which is after the operating system is installed.

I tried using the USB2 Ports and they also didnt work. Not for my mouse or keyboard. I'm not sure what to do anymore. It could be that I'm using an apple keyboard but i doubt it because it works for the BIOS and my mouse works for the BIOS also. Also my other keyboard did not work. Maybe I should give EVGA a call. I herd that you need to slipstream usb drivers into the windows 7 iso but im not sure. And I'm also not sure why it bypasses my Windows 8 Imaged USB key.

I thought a DVD would be no issue, I'll keep watching this thread, please post if you are able to resolve this with EVGA.

You either have to slipstream USB drivers into your win 7 iso OR wait for the next bio update http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2381239

For Win7 on current release you will have to slipstream the drivers. Win8/10 do not require this. This is chipset limitation.
In the future we will release a BIOS update to enable "legacy mode" to enable USB 2.0 support on Win7 install.
Wow. How do you overlook something like that?
