My nephew wanted to go with the ASUS X99 2011-v3 motherboard because of the color combinations. We have now been through 4 of their board and not one of them has functioned properly. They have taken the bad motherboard maker name away from EVGA and applied it to themselves. We've been through a X99-A that had bad SATA ports, X99-Deluxe that the top pci-e 3.0 slots stopped working on, exchanged it for another X99-Deluxe which was getting terrible Physics and ITB scores, updated the bios and if you overclocked it at all it would blue screen going into Windows. So we exchanged that one for a X99-Deluxe 3.1 board and it does the same thing, blue screens with any overclock.

We changed the ram, psu and tested his cpu (5930k) in my EVGA X99 Classified in which it works perfectly. Pretty cherry cpu actually. Runs 4.2Ghz with only 1.168v on the vcore. It's on water in both his and my system and barely sees 60°C on a couple cores.

He won't try another ASUS board. He would like to get the EVGA X99 Classified board, but Micro Center doesn't carry it and he is going with a MSI X99 Plus board that I have tested before and everything works good on it except the hot swap, which he could care less about, he just needs his system up and running. ASUS is the new champ junk motherboard maker.

Wow! I don't blame you for feeling that way. That's a string of really bad luck.

I've had a much better experience with both of mine. My Max VI Formula has been lights out for over a year and R5E has bèen outstanding for 4 months. Performance on both has been fantastic . Easily the best mobos I've ever used.
Hope you have much better luck with the MSI X99.
Edit: just wanted to add. I'm no asus fanboy. I've had issues with their products in the past. I only got the R5E because I was very much impressed with the Formula

Wow that is really surprising to hear from ASUS since they're usually top dog in the motherboard market. Did they offer a refund or anything?

Other than nonexistent cutomer support when needed I always heard good things about ASUS motherboards. The X99 is out of my price range but I think you'll like the MSI motherboard. My Z77 and both Z97 motherboards are stable, reliable and feel sturdy not flimsy like an ASRock board. I had to RMA for a burnt out fan header and a borked BIOS flash but their RMA gets approved in seconds.

That board isn't the new X99 2011-v3 architecture. I had a ASUS 2011 RIVE was hands down one of the best best I ever owned. These new boards are just absolute junk. One of them I sent back to Newegg as a replacement and they just gave me my money back, they didn't want another return on it lol. Just do an internet search on these boards, nothing but issues from not booting with too many USB devices in them to blue screening with an overclock. I should do a quick video on this board before I pull it and run it to Micro Center for replacement.

Using the EZ XMP switch on the board results in 24Gb of memory instead of 32Gb, just junk.

I have only had the RVE (for 2011-3) and have been lucky to have no issues with it at all. Sorry to hear all the others are giving such issues.

I guess when they try to hit certain price points they may, or may not, skimp on quality of components. Glad I went with their upper end boards on both of my builds. I've not had the need to deal with Asus cs as of late but years ago I did and I found them useless at that time.
Both of my boards have been rock solid (knocking on wood) and a lot of fun to play with
Hopefully you and your nephew get things sorted out soon and get back to the fun part of it

This isn't a cheap board "price wise". $410 from Micro Center plus tax. I got them to price match Newegg's price of $400 for this board and with tax it ended up at $435 total cost.

ASUS has some issues with the X99 2011-v3 boards. I also had a ASUS Z68 motherboard I had to return because it would not hold the memory settings. Turn off the system, come back 5 min later, turn the system on and the memory settings were kicked out and back to defaults settings. I didn't get another one, went with Gigabyte since I couldn't find a EVGA Z68 SLi to replace the one I scratched the back of the pcb and knocked out the second set of memory slots.

But the quality is referring directly to hardware quality. If it was about Cars, which isn't computer hardware, then it would be fit for general discussion.

Maybe if you remove the whole motherboard topic and just talk about Asus, then it would be a general discussion, but referring specifically to the hardware made by Asus makes it hardware..

Due to the PM's from Kram, and all the hoopla regarding my decision to move the thread, I have asked other Mods to review my own decision. I don't normally do this, especially with a thread move. Just don't want Kram to think I'm picking on him, or something silly like that.

Also, stay on topic and let me deal with the thread being moved.

    lmao.

The title and discussion isn't about EVGA hardware, it's about ASUS hardware therefore it fits into the General Hardware area, regardless about what you're talking about.  You even mentioned a model number and began talking about its components on-board.

We can understand going through four boards can be frustrating, but I would have given up after the second and went with another brand.

Well... Asus quality and their boards have been pretty bad since Z77... They're hit and miss... I remember tons of issues with the RIVE... Which is a shame because they got the RIVF right, but discontinued it... Hope it gets fixed!

The thread is about ASUS quality, turn it which ever way you want, I started it because of ASUS quality is turning to crud.

Anyways, got the MSI board in the system yesterday and it's working 100% perfect, even the hot swap, which I had an issue with on a previous board. We had a blast last night with his system, about time too. Half the price of the ASUS board and it rocks. Beat the Fire Strike 4K Gaming PC score with just a single 980 Ti.

Can't disagree with this post. ASUS and I used to brag them up when I had the X99 2011 RIVE board.
