So, I tried windows 10 then decided to go back to windows 7 from image I made a couple of days before the windows 10 install.
Recovery didn't work.
After windows 7 was back up and running I decided to run windows updates.
It ran for about 1 1/2 hours, NOTHING HAPPENED.
So I restarted it and tried again it ran for about 4 hours, no timeout NOTHING
It just runs and runs and runs with no response.
Anyone else have that problem

You didn't say why you went back to Windows 7.

Did you install Windows 7 fresh or from a backup?

Depending on what you answer to Rjohnson's question you may need to reset the Windows 7 update database. All depends on if it was damaged by the reversion back from Windows 10.

The following link will help in that regard. Please follow it exactly as shown and it should restore you update database back to a more normal state. Also once this is done the initial population of installed updates will take a bit of time, just about 15-20 minutes, to evaluate the hashes of the files installed in order to figure out what is already installed. The link is here.

I did it twice, First from an image which just kept running then a new a fresh install, it kept running also.
I decided to go back because the older laptop I put it on was having to many problems with it.
I'll wait a couple of months and maybe try again.
Thanks for the reset info, I'll give it a try.

Everything was set as it was supposed to be, I have no idea what the problem was.
I let it run for hours at a time them one day turned it on and the updates started
That's one for the books I guess.
