All the trailers and game play looks good but I want to know if you can jump into it without fully knowing all the past stories. I LOVED the original NES game and the sequel was good but when they started getting all weird on playstation with skateboarding vampire guys, it got stupid for me.

And the console gamers will never know the glory of true 4k with this game.. And neither will I, but I bet 1440p will be beautiful enough.

I watched the recap/catch up metal Gear videos and I am pretty lost on the story. Can you play this without being super up on what's going on?

Yes, you dont need to play the previous games to understand what's going on. That being said the storyline has always been the cliche "stop the terrorist group that has a WMD" with bizarre twists. The fun is in the gameplay.
