Now that Skylake CPU's have been launched it defo looks I will replace my ageing i7-2600K with a Haswell-E CPU. To that end i was wondering if anyone could confirm whether there is going to be an X99 Classified 2 from EVGA? I have read a few posts that suggest one was mentioned in the Computex 2015 vid which mentions the micro2 , but I believe that the classified being refered to was the Z170 Classified. I have read a fair few horror stories about pretty much all the vendors X99 boards, since the demise of Abit I have been solely using ASUS. Whilst I have never had any issues with ASUS boards I am considering moving to EVGA, hence the question.

I encourage to keep up pressure , and voice a want, for this product. It may help step.up the priority of the board.

I guess x99 is not the "newest stuff" anymore. They'll concentrate on resolving new z170 boards issues (and let x99 many issues as is for now ? I hope not)

If you think that Z170 is so interest I would advice you to look performance... EVGA still should think about X99 platform, because people could buy same performance as i7-6700K before one year with i7-4790K. They will buy now same performance as before one year. Because of that I didn't pay attention on mainstream, X99 is story for self, you can buy for 650$ whole platform with Micro 2 board and you don't need to think about revision, next chipset, next board. If Skylake E is compatible with 2011-3 good if not never mind, again difference will be same as mainstream Haswell-Skylake only longer time you can concentrate on graphic cards. And only chance to Intel give at least some performance increase is to offer processor with stock clock of 3.8-3.9GHz and they plan to do that. When new socket after Skylake E show up your X99 platform will be 3-4 years old... and you can think easy what to do... The worse things is because many people will try to save money with Z170 but they will maybe and overprice some X99 options. X99 Micro 2 have all new features, same almost as Z170, only CPU with 2 cores more and Quad Channel...Maximus 8 Extreme and i7-6700K will cost more than whole X99 platform with memory and Micro 2 and 6 core CPU.

What needs to change about the x99 Classified? Post the changes you are looking for, since there were legit things missing off the micro that are now included. 2 quick Examples: more sata ports and m.2 m-key. These are already on the original classified, so what needs to change? Just asking for a second board isn't giving any ideas as to what you want other than a new board. Currently there is no reason for evga to change anything just asking for a new name. The x79 dark was the result of a bad x79 classified setup. Obviously people want USB 3.1, but since that is just a PCI drive, they could do exactly what Asus and rename the board with 3.1 and include a PCI drive and then you get 3.1 without them wasting months on creating a new board.

When I remember madness about USB 3.0, Rampage III Extrame, X58 Classified until USB 3.0 become standard and AMD board 100$ had internal USB 3.0. Only situation when I could see benefits of USB 3.1 that's OS installation from USB Flash. But they will probably to launch some expensive External HDD 1TB and 2TB and to be honest I don't use that. I have some old USB 2.0 external drives 2-3 of them 250 and 500GB only if someone want to movie or similar thing I save him on other PC usually with USB 2.0/USB 3.0.

Add two M.2 Slots for RAID0! Or in another manufacturer, they called it "Turbo" mode or something like that. That would be huge. Of course speeds at PCI-E 3.0. Also, RGB lighting on the board.

OC socket would be nice, USB 3.1, single latch for RAM, dual m.2 slots for ssd, Audio isolation would also be nice, Better I/O shield and cover would be nice, black cap capacitors(?), EVBOT support!!

Well for Classy 2 there is literally 100 items on the list to do. And comparing X99 to Z170 is pointless. 2 different platforms. Try serious workload on Z170 and X99 and you will see which is more useful. Raw power of 2011-3 in HT environment leaves Z170 nowhere to be seen. In particular if you slap high end Xeon on the board. Problem with EVGA is that they think that X99 is used only for gaming and that shows when you treat X99 as you should - something more than SLI platform to play latest games. My and other guys RAID AICs issues are well documented. I don't spam forum with it anymore, I just spam Jacob (for no response). There is a lot of good things I have to say about EVGA but X99 Classified is not one of them. When you get it to work its typical EVGA quality and reliability. Crucial word is 'when'. I love functionality and color scheme of the BIOS. Unfortunately me personally had to trim arrays, spend even more money, create separate system to accommodate drives I intended to use with X99 Classy. What I would love to see: 1. XL-ATX format for starters - I know it won't happen because Jacob mailed me response that there is no XL-ATX/HPTX board coming at all which is a bummer if you have plenty of hot add-on cards inside. 2. Fixed issues between RAID AICs and the X99 chipset - this is ongoing thing since n680i I think, but when Adaptec is crapping out you know you're screwed big time. 3. Fixed PCI-Gen bandwidth negotiation. Its retarded that sometimes card is not detected properly unless Gen type is set manually. 4. Why you can't run any sound card AIC except some Sound Blasters is beyond me. 5. PS/2 ports - guys it is not that difficult to include 1 or 2. 6. DIMM slots must be replaced by 1 sided latch/sliding mechanism. Need to remove VGA when removing memory stick is idiotic. Granted you can try Jay2¢ way, but you may end with damaged socket. 7. PCI-Ex release mechanism must be changed also. 8. USB 3.1 not a highest priority as obtaining separate AIC is not a problem, but on-board ports tend to be most reliable. 9. Wi-Fi card. Not a fan of Wi-Fi whatsoever but on this class of board no Wi-Fi is silly. 10. Cosmetics - no red accents - or give replaceable different color elements. Something along the line of new Citroen/Peugeot cars where you can remove parts of dashboard and fit different color parts. 11. Black capacitors. This forrest of silver/red caps is annoying to watch. 12. Cosmetic # 2. EVGA is green so why only red LEDs? Replace color scheme by eye friendly green not super annoying red. Yes dark mode disable everything, but entirely black board looks spooky. 13. Thunderbolt AIC! 14. Not a fan of M.2 but perhaps AIC card with 2 M.2 sockets. And all of that written in few minutes. :D

Really, since K|ngp|n already trumps the classifieds on the gpu side. It is a name.. What does it matter as long as it is an upgrade?

Ahh got a response from J. Not much but it counts. :) About Classified. Classified before it became Classified of Red was Ultra of Green. Same target audience. Same price tag. There was a life before Red&Black you know, and it was Ultra Green&Black. :P I'm so sick of red color on the other side I don't want entirely black board. It doesn't look good either. Sadly nobody makes gorgeous boards like Asus X58 WS Supercomputer anymore. Painting radiators is trivial, painting slots, sockets and ports is almost impossible (high risk of bricking the board). To be honest I was thinking about MSI yellow offerings but, BIOS is idiotic, support is even worse (first hand experience) and life span of board is at most 12 months (no MSI mobo survived longer in my system without crapping out somehow). Asus Whites look really cute, but there is not one model with 7 slots, all are 6 which means instant disqualification and I'm not too fond of Asus support either.

I hope if they are making a x99 dark it'll have more usb 3.0 ports, and I wouldn't mind a plx chip to get the lanes up to 16x. But I guess when is the real question. I am trying to figure out which x99 board I want to get and it'd be nice to have another option on the table. I really like the Asus x99ws-e for the plx chip and all 4 16x slots but I'm not a fan of asus, I much prefer Msi or Evga, and it doesn't look like msi is going to use a plx chip anytime soon so....

Because PLX doesn't make much sense anyway. It adds significant cost to the board/chip and adds certain amount of latency. Furthermore PLX chips do not add lanes, it's just lane switcher - commonly known as "fake lanes". 40 lanes CPU will still deliver only 40 lanes even if you slap 500 PLX chips on motherboard. Do you plan to run 6 RAID AICs, 6 industrial grade SSD AICs or 6 Teslas? Are you molecular, medical or nuclear decay engineer? Because only under such extreme conditions lanes (and MHz) make the difference with data supplied for modeling by VGA(s) and RAM. For gaming x8 Gen.2 is rarely saturated and yet people still persist with this notion that x16 Gen. 3 is required to run VGAs of today. Even with sextuple monitor setup it still doesn't matter if you run x8/x16 or mix of both. It's a proven fact on previous generation boards that x8/x8 without additional lanes (by NF200 at that time) were faster than x16/x16 (with NF200 chip).
