Hi,

I currently have a 780i MoBo running 2 - 8800GT in SLI mode. (Pretty good for when I built it years ago) I would like to upgrade to a single newer card. (would like to get best bang for buck running DirectX 11.2 min.) I built my daughter a PC just weeks ago and put a GTX 960 w/ 4gig ram in her build, great card. Would this be overkill, or should I stick with something like a 750 Ti Superclocked, because of the older 780i MoBo?

Thnx

I ran 3 470s in sli on mine with an o/c Q9550 . Right now I have 1 470 on it (might install the 2nd one) . If you already have the 960 in it , just roll with it . What cpu you have on it now ?

WHAT THE WIFE DON'T KNOW WON'T HURT YOU!
Main rig - i7 7820X  , Corsair H110 cpu cooler , 32 gb Team G memory , Evga X299 Micro ATX 2  mobo , Corsair 850 psu , 2 evga 1080ti in SLI , Win 10 Pro 64 bit ,  43" TCL HDR 4K TV as monitor, Coolermaster HAF 32 case.

CPU - Core 2 Quad Intel 6600
PSU - 1000 watt
Ram - 8 gig DDR2
Windows  8.1
MoBo - 780i
GPU - (2) 8800 GT's
Case - Thermaltake Full

As I mentioned, I have no card at present to replace the 2 8800 GT's, I was considering maybe a 960 (4gig) (used one on my daughters build) or the 750 Ti Superclocked (2gig). Big price difference, but do not think the 960 will perform any better because of the older 780i board, or will it be the best choice for and upgrade. Or should I maybe just put in the 750 Ti Superclocked (only 120.00), because of the older MoBo, and build a whole new rig down the line.

To my knowledge the 9XX series of cards won't run on an NVIDIA chipset motherboard. The 7XX series should be fine.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I was running a GTX 480 on a 780i and then upgraded to a GTX 970.  I've ran a GTX 680 for a brief period of time too.  No issues running any of them.  Currently have a 790i board and am running a GTX 970 SSC.

Just ordered the EVGA 750 Ti Superclocked.

Thanks for all your help. This should get me to my next complete build.

You're running a similar setup as me (650i board, though). Q6600 and 750ti SC. In most cases, the CPU will be your bottleneck, even when OC'd (mine is at 3.0ghz). However, there are definitely case where the 750ti is the bottleneck still, mainly running at 1080p, but occasionally used my wife's Apple Cinema Display at 1440p. If you're running at 1080p or higher, a GTX 960 definitely would have given you better performance, but unlikely that it would give you the full nearly-double the performance of the 750ti that it's capable of, due to your CPU.

Yeah, that is why I choose the 750i Superclocked. Because of my CPU and MoBo, Ram, etc., In a couple years I'll be building a whole new rig, so the 750i will give me best value to hold me over. (also will be able to use this card then in other family member systems)
