Hi,
recently I bought a G2 1000, and till now I just tested it with the included PSU Tester, since I am waiting for Skylake to come out.

What I noticed was, even though there is only minimal power draw (only psu tester), the fan of the PSU is relatively loud (I would guess around 1000 u/min, huge airflow when I touch with my hand), louder than any of my other components.

Will this be the final noise stage when my pc is basically just idling, or is the psu tester simulating heavy load?

I thought the G2 has a "Quiet and Intelligent Auto Fan for near-silent operation" (Product Page)? Then why not use like 500 u/min for idling?

I have the 1300 G2 and I can tell you that it's silent as can be. I've seen other people complain that it's loud and I'm not sure what the deal is but mines quiet.

Depends how you define silent. I am sure the fan spins with > 1000 rpm when I am just using the paperclip testing. There is a big "whush" of cold airflow when I feel with my hand. Not sure if this is really necessary when the psu is only at very low load. I have lots of silent noctuas and a pretty open case with a window so I am afraid this will be a problem.

But it looks like i messed up. Didn't expect the more premium G2 1000 was without eco compared to the G2 750 or 850, but if I give my psu back the 50% coupon will be void apparently as I heard when I called EVGA. Looks like I have to keep this one and live with the noise, which makes me sad lol.

That's task of manufacturer, if PSU pull 1000-1050W from wall temp should stay in normal range.
They can't do that with completely silent fan.
1000 G2 and 1300 G2 are launched during 2013 I think, and 850/750 G2 are launch later when EVGA decide to install Eco Mode.

I know, but what I am trying to say is that ~500 rpm at 100-150W load (when you are not gaming etc) would be sufficient.

If a P2 1000 can idle at 0 rpm eco, why does a G2 1000 need to idle at 1000 rpm. The fan curve simply isn't optimized.

I had that on mind when I chose 1200 P2.
Only three things decide, 1.Eco Mode 2. 100% Black Cables 3. Total Score 10 on Jonny Guru site.
