Hey all,
I think my gtx 560 that I got back in 2012 might be about to die on me. Lastnight I was playing Swtor and I got artifacts on my screen then the screen got all distorted and turned red then went black with my monitor showing "no signal" My pc did not shut off - but my display did not come back either.

So If i got a card it would definitely have to be under $300 dollars. I have a 850watt power supply so just about any gpu should be okay?

I was thinking of getting a 780.. but is it worth it? and the prices on them are still Steep. so would the 960 still even be a huge upgrade for me? I was thinking of the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SuperSC ACX 2.0+ ?  or the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ just cause it have 4gigs of memory on it

I'm not even sure if I need to worry about it yet since it only happened one time. Maybe it was a fluke or something. but still I would like to be prepared.

850w should be plenty for any video board available today. Someone will be quick to correct me if I'm wrong about that. I think spending an extra $50 to get a GTX-970 would be a better option for you rather than getting a GTX-960.

That would put me over my budget for buying a new card  but thank you for your input! I was just hoping the 960 is a good card and it would be a upgrade from my 560

A GTX-960 is a very good video board and would be an excellent upgrade from a GTX-560.

If you are still running that AMD 965, it's time to upgrade to a FX8370 at the very least. Otherwise, you are going to run into issues with your processor not keeping up with your GPU.

Get a 960, and then later do SLI

You're going to likely be CPU bottlenecked. That CPU isn't much faster than my OC'd Q6600, and even THAT bottlenecks my GTX 560 in many games.

A GTX 960 offers 2.25x-2.5x the performance over a vanilla GTX 560 going off the benchmarks I've seen, assuming no CPU issues. Additionally, if you trace it back, it falls between the 760 and 770 (sometimes beating the 770), putting it on par with the 680, which is twice as powerful as a 660, which is a nice boost over a 560.

My recommendation? Given your CPU limitation, I'd consider the $99 after MIR going on at Newegg for the EVGA GTX 750ti (today only). It would offer you a boost of 25%-50% depending on the game, letting you save some money for your next overhaul. Or, if you want to go big, I'd spend the roughly $200 (give or take) for the GTX 960 or R9 380, depending on your needs (the 380 is generally faster). Anything bigger would likely be a waste due to your CPU.

    kayfaei,
+1 on 900 series.  You can take it with you.  Budget = nothing more than time.  Set some goals for yourself. Sounds like you are cruising for more than a new GPU.
