Hi all
A fan on my 560 has just collapsed, and warranty expired some days before..
I have checked alternative cooling systems but they're roughly 50 euros, so I think I'd better replace my card with a new one :
Would a 750 Ti ftw be a sensible improvement?
I usually don't play fps
My machine is
Gigabyte Ud3h
I5 3750k
8 gb ram corsair dominator
7-800 watt corsair psu
0.75 tb Wd black hd
and.. i must confess i haven't understood... would the card be very very noisy?
Couple of thoughts.
1. Call the OEM of your card, even if it's out of warranty. You have no idea how many companies will send replacement fans for free. This, of course, depends on how easy it is to replace the fan. The fan on my AC Freezer 7 pro (6 year warranty) died just outside of the warranty period. I called them asking if I could order a new one, and they replied with, "No, but we'll send you one for free :)" So, it's worth the call/email. Give it a shot.
2. I just upgraded from a GTX 560 (non-ti) to EVGA's GTX 750ti SC (FTW > SC > reference). I do not consider the FTW to be worth it. The OC is marginally over the SC version (in the neighborhood of 2-3% IIRC, and no memory OC). Also, the SC has the half-sized card/cooler, giving you case flexibility. Mine has been whisper quiet (I have yet to hear the fan), and it rarely goes over 40 degrees (and I have yet to measure it exceeding 48 degrees). Just something to consider. Get the FTW if you want it, but the SC should be more than fine :)
3. As to the degree of improvement, a reference 750ti is 20-30% faster, on average, than a referene 560 (non-ti). I've seen smaller gains, and some gains over 50% in the right circumstances. I would never recommend that someone upgrade from a 560 to a 750ti, unless the reason was for something other than straight performance. In my case, I needed Displayport, wanted Gamestream, and refused to get a card slower than what I already had, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. It didn't disappoint. So, if you want a performance upgrade just as much as a replacement card, try to get the 960 (if you can spare $200), or wait 2-3 weeks for the 950. The 960 is literally twice the performance of the 750 ti, and the 950 appears to be 75% of the performance of the 960. So, if the 750 ti is a "100," the 950 is a "150," the 960 is a "200," and ye olde 560 is probably an "80," if that illustrates it enough. But, the 950 will be offered at the same retail price point ($150) as the 750 ti, making it only marginally more expensive than the current street price of the 750 ti.
I hope the above helps.
