Yes the Strix is the best card on the market deltahawk5 so enjoy. Until the ACX 2.0 is improved EVGA will be stuck in the low middle tier of cards.

Wrong, the Gigabyte gtx 970 G1 is.

I got my 970 ssc acx 2.0 yesterday, I am currently speaking to newegg about returning it, as the coil whine and fan noise is just unbearable. I loved my 680, the blower fan kept my card cooler and the fan noise was not an issue. Very disappointing.

Well I still have the my SSC and play games on it.  Instead of RMAing the card i'll wait and step up to the FTW edition (which I wanted to do anyways) instead of doing a RMA and a step-up later on...

FYI and YMMV, my 970 SSC ACX 2.0 is pretty silent, I like it.

Enaku the Strix is better then the G1.  It's cheaper overclocks better and is quieter and has cooler temps

Wrong again bro, first that article does not prove anything either way, second we are talking about 970's. This is a throttling test,

"When only taking the power limit into consideration with these cards the first card to most likely downclock due to a power limit is the ASUS STRIX, followed by the MSI Gaming, and lastly the Gigabyte G1."

" The ASUS STRIX card allows for ~163w with the 100% power limit and ~196w with the power limit set to 120%. The MSI Gaming card allows for 200w with the 100% power limit and 220w with the power limit set to 110%. The Gigabyte G1 card allows for 250w with the 100% power limit and 280w with the power limit set to 112%."

evga allows for 145w at 100% power, I'm pretty sure.

And my name has a "c" in it, bro.

The SSC should have been labeled "ACX 1.5".  The FTW has the real ACX 2.0 cooler (more efficient/quieter) while the SSC and under use reworked ACX 1.0 cooler and parts...

Still it's a good cooler that does the work.

So the ACX 1.0 to 2.0 step up program...can I just swap out the fans?  That would be ideal.  However, the 1.0 BIOS update/fan profile was recently released, but it is still limited to 35% at the lowest level, not 0% like the ACX 2.0, because the fans can't reliably start back up.  So if the new BIOS doesn't reduce RPM, then certainly a new fan won't either.  Unless they release a 3rd BIOS for ACX1.0 with the new fans to reduce RPM to 0%.  But how would they prevent owners of the ACX1.0 fans from updating to this new BIOS that can turn the fans off?  I don't think you can detect fans electronically.  Then they risk not being able to spin the fans back up.
How confusing.  Please don't make me do this:

Someone from EVGA should answer all of these questions.... the 970 acx 1.0 launch is a total mess.

Waiting one more week, if there is no info about the 2.0 upgrade, gonna sell my SLI, and buy another brand.

Hello, EVGA in some German forums I read, that in 4-6 weeks even the ACX2.0 version will see another new version of the cards, that should reduce the coil whine problem. Can you confirm this and how would one know if it is the fixed or the faulty version?

Sorry to pull this up again, just want to share my findings.
A few days ago I got my EVGA 970 SC ACX 2.0.
Before that I owned a R9 270X, working flawlessly.

But the EVGA has given me nothing but trouble. Temps when playing FC3 hits 80+ degrees and the whole screen goes black.
I have to power cycle the PC to get an image again.
Battlefield 4 does the same thing, as does Advanced Warfare.
When looking in the event viewer, it says "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." a few times.
After that: "Application farcry3_d3d11. has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware."

Only half-solution was to put a custom fan profile in Precision X to be able to play for some time.
But the fan noise at 70% is very loud.

Needless to say that I'm not happy, I was hoping to get an efficient Maxwell based card, but now I've got to apply several tricks first to be able to play something.

Cheers.

That doesn't sound right at all. My SC doesn't even go to 80C when benching with Furmark. I would RMA that card.

I had to set a custom profile in Precision X as well to stop the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." errors I was receiving. But my temps, to my knowledge, never reached that high. Maybe mid to high 60's.

Doesn't sound good at all. I have had an ACX1 970 SC for about a month now and run War thunder and Elite Dangerous maxed out settings and 2560x1440 res for hours on end and the card just breaks 70 with no stability problems whatsoever. I just upgraded to the 1.1 firmware last week and haven't noticed anything so far.

I was a bit paranoid at first and would check temps etc regularly but after about a month I've stopped worrying. It's ran really well.
I don't have any coil whine from the actual card but the PCIE slot I'm using is right next to my xifi sound card PCI slot and you can get some noise on the mic if you ramp up the sound. Not sure if this is normal or not, or whether there is interference from the proximity of the two parts and more of a mobo issue.

But the card has been fantastic co far. Can't even hear it over the three 120mm case fans.

Could someone please comment on the loudness and temperature of the card? This comparison (Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Review Roundup - Performance Analysis, from bit-tech.net) has made me a bit worried about the evga card, mainly because they make it sound as if the quality of the card components isn't as good as the other 2 brands. I have never had a bad experience with evga which is why I decided to get their SSC GTX970 AXC 2.0 from newegg. Could someone also comment about the coil whine if any. Thanks.

I'm also wondering if the card will come with a backplate included or if evga will send us early adopters free backplates when available.

EDIT:
The coil whine coming from my gtx 970 SSC acx 2.0 is very low and not noticeable at all unless I put my ear next to the card. My temperatures are really good too. The highest temperature I have gotten even after overclocking the card is 62C. I am using a custom fan profile, but it doesn't get loud enough to be bothersome at all.
The highest score I managed to achieve in Unigine Valley with my GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 is 4724 (stable).
Settings:
Ultra
1920x1080 full screen
AA off
Overclock:
Power Limit: 110%
Core Clock: +120MHz
Memory Clock: +300MHz
Core Voltage: +87mV (This is just to make sure I am testing the card at its full potential)

The max temp I got was 62C using a custom fan profile. The max fan speed used was 72%, which wasn't loud enough to be bothersome.

I will keep testing the card, as I am sure that I can still achieve slightly higher clocks for both the core and the memory.

So far I'm very pleased with this card. I so hope EVGA give american customers the extended 5 years warranty and the backplate too. However, everyone has to realize that EU customers had to pay a higher price for their cards, which might be why EVGA is offering them some added value to their purchase.

HEY YOU OWN AN acx 2.0 correct? Can you confirm if you can overvolt the card? Im getting an acx 2.0 replaced for my current 1.0 and the 1.0 does not go ANY HIGHER than 1.200v! Does the acx 2.0 allow that?

I had the same issue with my EVGA 970, black screens or crashing to desktop. The only cure was to set the fan speed to high revs but the noise was becoming an issue. I RMA'd my card and got the new one today, tested it and everything is ok! I'm so happy now. So, everyone who's having a blacksreen issues DO RMA your card straight away! As someone mentioned before it's like you playing a lottery and whether you gonna get a good stable card or not depends on how lucky you are!

I think this is post related, if not please advise and I'll make a new thread.
So I bought a 970 ssc ACX 2.0 card and it sounds like a jet turbine in my case. Fan profile settings dont affect it for Precision X, one of the fans dont spin and the other is maxed out. My old 660 with the turbine is actually quieter then this card. Brand new out of the box was hearing the issue. I verified that it is up to date in regards to the firmware updates for the fans. RMA or return or?

Question, I got a GTX 970 from best buy (ACX 2.0+) but I heard it's not actually ACX 2.0 and yes an older version with gimped features? The box is this one:

I'm gonna sadface if I actually bought a "worse" version, plus it screams of false advertising to me. But I Hope someone can clear this up for me, thanks!

That box looks different than the one my GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 came in.  Looks a bit fancier - Mine had an "overlay" on the right side of the box.

The important thing to check is to make sure the serial number visible on the box label matches the one on the card you can see through the hole in the back.  That, plus the model number, should reassure you.

They definitively match. I'll see if I can find the BIOS switch since my card isnt 0%'ing below 60ºC.

Ok, So I picked up the EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 Best Buy Edition - 04G-P4-3979-KB.  From what I understand, from research is this is either a special version for Best Buy or older version released right after the heatpipe fiasco from the end of last year.  I think the heatpipe fiasco(2 out of the 3 heatpipes touched the GPU) was fixed with a new cooler heatsink design, same fans.  As I inspected my card I have a huge silver plate that covers the GPU.  Also the heatpipes are not in the U design as seen in the bit-tech.net article.  The heatpipes on mine run horizontal(front to back), you can verify by looking at the heatpipes coming from the back of the card.

I have no issues with the card but I am worried about the stock temps.  Mine resides at around 62c idle and go up to about 73c during full load running Unigine Valley benchmark.
I'm coming from a GTX 750 1gb and that card would throttle the clock down when idle or internet browsing. My idle temp on that card was around 30c or so.
Right now I have a custom fan profile set for 40% on the GTX 970 SSC and it is running at 37c idle and around 60c running Unigine Valley Benchmark, which seems more normal to me.

My question is does this specific card downclock when idle and not in full use?
Also could not find a BIOS switch on this version of the card, can anyone confirm?

WOW, reading all these posts... That sucks about some people having fan whine. The 900 series has been around awhile and the 970s are pretty much obsolete since the 980 are the way to go. Perhaps I can be of assistance. I am willing to collect anyone's 970 card that has the issue of fan noise at no cost! Additionally, I will also pay for the shipping. I feel this would be doing everyone a favor eliminating the bad cards out there that are just taking up space and causing so much havoc! I know it's pretty big of me but I'm just doing my part to help out!

That idle temp seems very high. Even with Precision X NOT running the fan, my 970 SC ACX 2.0 idles in the 35-37 C range, with the fan not running - running benchmarks, the highest temp I've seen was 77 c, and that's without the A/C running in my room.  If yours isn't downclocking (62 c at idle speed of 135 mhz sounds impossible); it might be if you're running two monitors?  I only run 1 1080p monitor.

I suggest to step up to the 980 and over clock it some more. That's just me though.

That idle temp seems very high. Even with Precision X NOT running the fan, my 970 SC ACX 2.0 idles in the 35-37 C range, with the fan not running - running benchmarks, the highest temp I've seen was 77 c, and that's without the A/C running in my room.  If yours isn't downclocking (62 c at idle speed of 135 mhz sounds impossible); it might be if you're running two monitors?  I only run 1 1080p monitor.

Thanks for the reply.  I have my pc connected to my 1080P tv, not a monitor, don't really think it makes a difference though.

So should I RMA this card? As of right now my GPU Temp is 63c.

Well, if those are the current values.... no wonder it's running at 63 degrees - it's running at full speed (what are you running at the same time?) and the fan is only running at eight percent.

The reason I asked about two monitors is in the past, with two monitors running off one video card, the card might not be able to downclock.  Your GPU seems to be running full speed, not idling.

That's what I thought.  Not sure why it's not downclocking.  As soon as I turn on the PC the temp goes up to 63c within about 5minutes.  Nothing is running in the background so I'm not sure what is going on.  I'm running on a clean install of Windows 10 with latest drivers from EVGA website.  And just to restate the card seems to run fine when gaming, full load temp is about 73c.  I can set an Aggressive fan profile but I don't feel I should as I am not overclocking. Also noticing that the fan does start until about 63c.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
