I do believe my venerable 4P has expired :-( .. folded many -bigadv with it..
Came home from work and blank screen. Rebooted.. no bios screen..nothing... just the fans running. Checked the PSU, no issues there.. popped the ram in and out.. nada
Looks like its time to get me some serious GPU power.. thinking a couple of 980ti's !!
What kind of PPD are those beasts getting these days?

*UPDATE! It's aliiiiive! All I did was disconnect the power cord from the box 2 days ago.. let all the electric discharge completely.. plugged it back in.. up and running!
My question about the 980's still stands though.. I'll keep the 4P running smp for now.. maybe just use it for CPU crunching challenges in the future as I have done in the past.

GPU is where the points are at these days.  I've been getting more ppd on my 980 than I used to with bigadv on the 4p.
I definitely recommend checking out crunching to utilize the 4p.  You can also pick up a pcix16 to pcix1 riser for about $5 and run a gpu on the 4p for maximum powah!

I have a GTX 980TI and GTX980 in the same box and get between 750K and 875K a day depending on the work units.  My CPU which is a i7 3960X is not being used to fold at all.

They have changed the bigadv specs and it now requires more cores. I believe 12 is the new minimum.

I'm glad your 4P is not toast, if it's the big boy 4P it was a big investment. My G34 4p has been running 8107's mainly, in it's neutered state[48 cores]. I really need to delegate it to crunching.... I do have 2 980's when I fold with them I get around 800,000 PPD. It's great to have them water cooled @ mid 40's folding/gaming.

Mine are 980's with a nice OC on them. I hope to add more down the line.

Sounds like the mobo is starting to give out, I have the same issue on my Z8NA 2p.

Its 24 cores @ 2.8 ghz on westmere arch or newer. Its a mute point though as PPD isn't what it was and I can earn more on SMP units on each of my 2 machines.

ok.. so the 4P is still running great.. but I decided to go ahead and get a couple of 980ti's anyway!
Whole new build on its way..
I'll relegate the 4P to crunching once the new rig is up and running.
I think I may even get back into the top 10 on the team PPD wise.. never had a million PPD before!

    +1 :) ....:(

Mflanga , I don't think you will be disappointed at all, plus the energy efficient bonus. :)  All I want is a nice platinum PSU to squeeze the most out. Of the cards....the cards people!  :)

When I went back and checked, they cancelled the bigadv project all together. Just SMP units from now on.

    Nice! Way to be.
Of course the SETI WoW event starts in a couple days if you want to prime those 980's up a little. Just sayin'
