Is there much advantage to folding on Linux? If there's a big difference in points, I would take the time to dual boot linux off a flash drive. Due to my configuration I can't get X windows working.

Is it worth the effort?

Thanks,
Ian

CPU performance seems a tad better, but it's really hard to compare overall. GPU folding is Windows domain for OC and drivers.

For a dedicated rig Linux is the way to go for cpu and NVidia gpu folding, the PPD difference is around 15-20%.  My 970 is getting upto 300k PPD with an average of 270k in Linux, cpu folding can net me up to 200k PPD on a 2 socket machine.

What config are you running that you cannot get X server running?

Won't you be losing out on GPU because of the OC?

I know my CPU OC is .3 weaker because of kernel panics.

If you're CPU folding with a multi-socket board with more than 2 sockets folding SMP WUs I would say yes. Win7/8.1 can only see 2 processors
Maybe even if it was a 2 processor 16, 24, 32 core server folding SMP you would do a little better in Linux.
If you're folding with GPUs than I would say no. Easier to overclock a GPU in Windows.

The Windows Pro consumer license limits the numbers of processors to only two so to expand the number of processors being supported you would need Windows Server software or Linux.

Typing this out on my phone, so bear with me.
I run a dual monitor setup with the Intel integrated graphics. The Linux kernel recognizes this and uses the i915 driver module. I installed the Nvidia driver package. The system currently loads the nvidia module, which at least means it sees the hardware. The system as of yet only puts the console on the igpu and doesn't display anything on the main monitor hooked up to the 970. I don't know why X11 can't load on the igpu, the support should be there.

    My system is as follows:
    Z87 motherboard
    i5-4530 non-k 3.4ghz
    16gb ddr3
    GTX 970, GTX 760, igpu
    Various Hard disks and ssds
    Debian 8 revision 1 amd64 mode
Xfce is my preferred windows manager.

Triple booting Win10, Win8.1, debian on flash drive (32gb).
