Would you flash the card if I provide you with instructions on how to do so? Is your card the 2GB or 4GB version?

its a 2GB version, it's not too risky is it?
Oh and AIDA doesnt run in the background, only when I want to get in depth information it's rarely used for me

As long as the power doesn't go off while flashing the card you should be ok but anything could happen.

Sure ill have instructions on how to do it thanks :)

Re: My new (used) EVGA 770 is underclocking in games due to power 2015/07/30 18:58:10 (permalink)
How to backup original vbios before flashing:

#1 Run command prompt via administrator.
- Windows 7: Press the start button and type "cmd", right click "cmd" and select run as administrator.
- Windows 8: Press the Windows Key & X keys together, right click "command prompt" and select run as administrator.
- Windows 10: Press the Windows Key & X keys together, select "command prompt (admin)".
#2 Type the following commands into the command prompt... "cd c:\users\<your users name here>\desktop\nvflash" without quotes and hit enter.
#3 Type nvflash --save Default_770.rom. Default vbios will be stored inside nvflash folder on desktop.

How to properly flash your card:

#1 Install winrar.
#2 Download latest version of nvflash to your desktop.
#3 Download this modded vbios to your desktop.
#4 Right click nvflash.zip located on the desktop and select "Extract to nvflash\, a folder will be created on your desktop named "nvflash" for you.

Flashing Procedure:

#1 Move the "X.rom" vBIOS located on your desktop into the nvflash folder via drag and drop.
#2 Run command prompt via administrator.
#3 Type the following commands into the command prompt... "cd  c:\users\<your users name here>\desktop\nvflash" without quotes and hit enter.
- Type "nvflash --protectoff" without quotes and hit enter. (Turns off write protection on the card. Some cards will need to have this disabled before you can flash the card so always perform this command before flashing.)
- Type "nvflash -6 X.rom" without quotes and hit enter.
#4 If you get an error stating "Firmware image PCI Subsystem ID <xxxx.xxxx> does not match adapter PCI Subsystem ID <xxxx.xxxx>" just ignore the error (this error will cause no harm, it's just letting you know you are changing the subvendor on the card.) and continue on flashing by pressing "Y" to override the error. nvflash should now start to flash the vBIOS to the card and complete by saying the flash was succsessful.
#5 Restart PC. (NVIDIA drivers should automatically detect and install the card, if not, you may need to uninstall the drivers and re-install them.)

Hey guys, reading through this thread I gotta say that tyger and mustang did bring up two critical points here that really do need to be addressed with his rig. It looks like he has a combonation of things going on. Running Precision and Afterburner together is a bad idea and it'll set off all kinds of errors and conflicts. Weve seen that time and time again. The PSU issue needs to be looked at too because, although I love Corsair as much as the rest of us, hes running the unit at its full potential with no headroom which is going to just eat that thing up. Not that I don't think the unit could do it, and him get away with it for a bit, but its far from ideal and something neither EVGA, Corsair or the members here would suggest you do for any length of time. Not to mention this would be if it was a brand new unit were talking about, not a used one, which I have no idea what the OP has in that respect. I would think that if hes pushing the system to full load gaming and the PSU tops out, it might throttle the whole system just to back down the voltage a bit as a safety measure. Maybe it would just hit the graphics card since that's whats causing it. I cant say for sure if its possible but the only way to know is to either add a second capable psu to the rig or get a bigger unit to test the PC out with. OP, I would surmise that how ever you had the system setup prior to the install of this card was error free for the most part and running well?!? You may want to go back to the 347.52 drivers from NVidia and try those too,but do not install everything. Just do a clean install and install the PhysX and GeForce driver and that's it.

EDIT: I see where the OP said its a used PSU that's been running a 480, my mistake guys sorry about that. :) 480 has the same power requirements, but that doesn't mean running it at its max ability for all that time didn't do some damage and its just showing its age finally.

Hi, jussssssst to make sure I got my old OCZ 750W power supply out and hooked everything up with that (i bought a new one because this psu scared me) and:

The same result! nooooooooooo
I guess ill try reflashing it tonight once someone says why it isnt flashing the BIOS. Oh and I uninstalled precision and afterburner (not AIDA and GPU-Z tho) and reinstalled the drivers but got the same result

Also I would like to add that it seems like the power doesnt limit at first, but slowly limits on games like cities skylines, GTAV etc.
Just noticed this after playing skylines for about 1 hour and power has limited and clocks have gone down to 1000MHz. I would also like to note that VRAM usage goes above the actual amount this card has? The card is a 2GB but afterburner is reporting 2500MB being used on the card ??? The game performs fine, though it's pretty wierd. GPU-Z also reports that -41928472MB is being used in the vram

Looks like you're gonna have to flash with a older version of nvflash. Do you have a copy of windows 7 you could load on another hdd/sdd?

Possibly. You'll need to have graphics driver 331.82 loaded. You'll need nvflash version 5.142. Instead of typing "nvflash -6 x.rom" to flash you would type "nvflash -4 -5 -6 x.rom" with the older version to flash. Since you've already made a backup copy of your original vbios make sure to put it on a usb flash drive for safe keeping.

When installed the graphics driver it reboots and then says nvidia driver installation failed and nothing is installed

Installed the driver and there is no video output from the card, fan running at 100℅ no idea on how I can get into safe mode now. Do you know how I can get into safe mode before I boot into windows? Obviously I can see the post and windows loading screens but no output after that

Ok found out that shift+f8 works. Used DDU and I'm fine again.
Thank god I backed up my old BIOS. I need to go out now so don't have time to restore my old backup but I assume I can use the new nvflash like I did before but instead replace the bios name with the backed up one right?
