I will be installing and benchmarking differences between popular games, 3dmarks, pcmarks, and other tests between windows 8.1 64bit and windows 10 64bit.
I play Battlefield 4 a lot, so if I spot anything funky, I wont be happy :(
Sometime tomorrow or Friday I will post my results. Hardware used will be EVGA Dark X79, i7 3930K, and an EVGA 970 SC.

Thanks Pgcmoore, got it.

I dont know why they added-moved the "properties" in the drop down, or if like that with Win8, Only used Win7 on all pc's here.
He's playing League of Legends? I think,  now.
So far everything is good, will see if it actually stops driver updates when next release is pushed.
I'm stickin with my Win7 for now, will install 10 on my new "first water loop" when its ready.

I'm very very glad for this news, time to make some money from the normal people

I don't think normal people will have a problem with this garbage. They might even like it. It's made for them and fat slobs like Robert Dell and the owners of Gateway and HP that want a self maintaining identical OS for every machine on the planet that they'll never have to worry about because they're too lazy to maintain it themselves. This is hardly customizable for performance or gaming enthusiasts like us. I've had to disable tons of useless services and reload just as many tweaks with just as many no longer available to be tweaked. I'll give this a week and them I'm restoring my Windows 7 image. I can't even delete the old Restore Points in Disk Cleanup. Backups and creating a system image appear to be on a schedule with no way to do it manually except for some carry over from Windows 7 that gives me errors because it can't find Disk 6 or Disk 8. There's a good reason for that, there's only four drives on this PC.

Thank you for 'taking one for the team'. I ain't touching W10, at least not as it stands.
LOL at the "can't find Disk 6 or Disk 8. There's a good reason for that, there's only four drives on this PC".. lmao.

Here are my thoughts on Windows 10 now that I have the chance to use it.

It feels like going to a rich, creepy step-uncles house as an 8 year old.

What I mean is, there are neat things to play with but I am afraid I will break something, it's kind of familiar but yet it doesn't have that homey feel to it and I don't want to be left alone with it in case I get molested.

This is definitely made for the masses not for performance enthusiasts. It's too childproof for my tastes.

No performance hit for me with 353.62 and Windows 10. Just thermal optics in armored vehicles playing BF4 was all washed out. I couldn't see anything except the light gray film that covered my screen.

Decided to take the plunge and try 10 out on an old laptop. I was pleasantly surprised. Put a little zing back into it. Upgrade went smooth as silk with intel graphics. After customizing it I started liking it so I said to myself time for gaming rig. Total different experience. First it did not install my video drivers second my sound was borked. Third it rebooted asking me to logon at boot and I never set up a password on this pc before. Well I finally figured out that I had to logon with my Microsoft account then I Installed the latest NVidia drivers and disabled auto install drivers. Next the sound was fixed just by selecting my speaker config 5.1 in realtek control panel. After about an hour of getting everything to work and customizing I am loving it. My graphics performance is amazing now. I don't know if it was the drivers for windows 7 or just the operating system itself that was holding my 980ti cards back but performance went up by at least 50 percent.

Asus Sabertooth x99

EVGA 1000w psu
Zotac 980ti x 2

So what happens if I upgrade my PC later this year. Will Win 10 reject it? Have to have another key? I'm a little confused on this.

So let's say I upgrade every 3 years, for example. I upgrade, and then get the free Win 10. Then in 3 years I upgrade my PC again. At that time the free upgrade would be gone, meaning I would have to buy it the next time?

I upgraded Friday morning even though I wanted to wait a few months originally. The upgrade went smoothly. The only quirk was with my X-Fi drivers. I removed them and they got re-added using Windows' drivers and that worked for basic functionality. The ETA for my card's drivers is September 2015 (SB0886).

I don't quite like the Start menu layout so again, I installed Classic Shell and enabled the Windows 8 skin. Looks and feels great!

Microsoft Edge is great but I'd like to see the search providers re-added back to the context menu.

Naz, try installing the Win7 X-fi driver exe then go to device manage, locate the x-fi device and choose update driver but choose browse option and direct it to the folder the inf file is in that was installed with the X-fi driver exe. Had a similar issue and was able to get it to load. Had to use the MS hardware driver hide tool to get it to stop reverting.
edit: you may not get the console to work, but it should give you access to the creative control panel, and full functionality. You could also try using compatabilty mode in the device properties.
I love my X-Fi!

Had to upgrade several customers computers at work today with it.
One of my co workers is too.... erm.. inept  to know how to do it properly.

Several errors and hours later they are all done, had to force the update on most of them though.
Seems very poorly thought out by Microsoft, also had several people bring their computers in with the NVidia issues and had to fix those.

Are you finding more problems with W7 upgrades? My 8.1 went smooth as silk. Of course I just accepted the Nvidia driver for now.

It went up a little. I am talking about my fps in games.  I get a real smooth play now at 2560x1600 in all my games with lower gpu usage and cooler temps.

for some reason quote is not working for me

That score looks much better than the first one that you posted. That a nice increase for you.

Zuhl3156 Yea but I think that's this boards limit. I think I need pci express 3.0. I overclocked my cpu to 4.5 ghz earlier and didn't gain any graphics points just physics. Gpu usage never goes over 84 percent and cpu usage stays low also while benching. Birthday is coming in a few more months I told my wife I wanted an x99 LOL

Asus Sabertooth x99
5930k (4.5ghz)
16gb Corsair DDR4 (3000)
EVGA 1000w psu
Zotac 980ti x 2
Samsung 850 pro 500 SSD
HPLP3065 30in Monitor 2560x1600

Wait for the Z170, unless you need octocore with lower clocks.
