You plan to upgrade on X99 with some Classy motherboard?  I would like some reliable Classy, if she work as mine Z77 FTW people could curse if they want I have nothing against... 3 years with overclocked processor on 4.5GHz 1200V...Boot time 11 seconds with SATA III Force GT. People love ASUS ROG... but 10 people with burned Processors... slow boot, people can't install OS on overclocked system... My declared bad board have nothing against installation OS on overclocked hardware...and voltage is always 1207V (1200V)...and during full load 100%. Shamino leave EVGA no more excellent boards, he leave ASUS biggest number of burned processors. Maybe you don't need even second version, why... everything is here with 40 lanes processors... You can build In and USB 3.1 and all features...

I noticed they moved away from the right angled USB 3.0 header connection, likely to avoid conflicts with smaller cases and bulky USB 3 cables... my question is, does this still affect the board's ability to SLI cards? Looks like you'll need the low profile adapter still.

- No clips on the bottom of the RAM slots (so top video card doesn't have to be removed to get RAM in and out)
- 1x USB 3.1 type-C on rear IO
- M.2 slot (PCIe 3.0 x4 that's shared with the bottom PCIe slot)
- black capacitors and socket
- isolated audio section
There's a few other minor changes but these are what I can think of right now.

I gotta ask, cause I can't find it anywhere. If I have the 5820K and a 980Ti, will I be able to stick both an M.2 SM951 for the boot drive and an Intel 750 PCIe SSD as a scratch disk? Or is that not possible?

You can probably but graphic card will work on x8 speed. Don't remind me, I'm angry on myself... :)... I would sell this i7-5820K and bouth 5960X with big smile on face but budget not allow me. So much money only for some excellent single GeForce for lot of video memory. I made excellent combination for SM951 or Intel 750 SSD depend what someone like with USB 3.1 Port Card and Sound Card but 40 lanes is necessary. When I bought CPU in my head was only fact than 5820K and 5930K are with same number of cores and I choose single GeForce not SLI. But that was shallow thinking without wider image.

Your CPU has a total of 28 lanes. The top slot will be the GPU with 16 lanes taken. The M.2 disables the 3rd slot once in use and will use up another 4 lanes. That leaves you with 8 lanes left which should be more than enough for your 750 which I believe will require only 4 lanes as well.

1) Suppose I have an i7-5930K (40 PCIe 3.0 lanes) fitted to the EVGA X99 Micro2:
PCIe Slot 1: GPU
PCIe Slot 2: GPU
PCIe Slot 3: Wifi card
M.2 Slot: SM951 SSD
Are speeds as follows: x16, x16, x4, x4? Or is this not possible. Does the use of the M.2 slot gip the PCIe slot 3 such that you can't use a x1, x2 or x4 device?
2) Does the M.2 Slot support NVMe SSDs. (I am thinking of waiting to buy the SM951 NVMe when it comes out).

Here's the X99 Micro2 breakdown Simon, explained in the Manual.
PCI-E Slot Breakdown PCI-E Lane Distribution (40 Lane Processor)
PE1 – x16
PE2 – x16
PE3 – x8
PCI-E Lane Distribution (28 Lane Processor)
PE1 – x16
PE2 – x8
PE3 – x4
To your first question with a 40 Lane CPU, you will have PE1 @ x16, PE2 x16 for both GPUs and a choice to have either a Wifi Card or a M.2 PCI-E SSD. You can't have both as the M.2 disables the PE3 slot. You will have more than enough lanes for what you're asking for in the end.

The M.2 gimps all x8 available to the 3rd slot when using a 40 lane i7-5930K. So that answers that! Thank you for your helpful response. But no, I will not have more than enough lanes for what I am asking: even with a 40 lane processor I would have to choose between a 32Mbps M.2 SSD or a wifi card. Ahh. You can't have everything it seems. You could use a WIFI USB. Not sure how well it will perform though if you're looking for a high performing one. As for the NVMes, I believe its been implemented in a previous BIOS update not too long ago. I would still check to make sure but it should give you more than enough time till it's released.

How much fan headers are PWM-capable? In the Manual it says in part 1 on page 8/9: 3. CPU Fan Header (1 amp PWM) 4. CPU2, PWR, AUX,CHA fan headers (1 amp PWM/DC) "3." is marked one time, "4." is marked 4 times on the picture on page 8. I think both CPU fan headers have PWM for sure, but what about "PWR" (what does this mean?), "CHA fan headers" (what does this mean?) and AUX? Later in part 2 the manual says on page 6: Fan Headers (PWM for CPU and DC for case fans) Are case fans all fans besides the CPU fans (including "PWR" and "CHA") or maybe only the AUX fans?

The original Micro only had true PWM on the primary CPU header, all the others (including CPU_OPT) were DC control only. I suspect it's the same with the Micro2 here due to the ambiguous wording in the manual. The other fan header labels don't really mean anything anymore. PWR used to be for power supplies with externally controlled fans but nobody does that these days. Edit: See here

I'm starting my next build planning. This will require some machining, so I figured I should teach myself SketchUp. My basic learning was completed by modelling the X99 Micro2. It isn't complete, but will work if you are wanting to do some mock-ups.
