Not that many people play Hardline. The peak player count for past 24 Hours only hit 3k. You should look at the bright side, the less people that play, the better chances you have of winning.   
 
It would be boring to running around in an empty server for 15hrs. That is when you need a younger brother that doesn't care if no one else is on the server, they just like to run around. Let them rack up the hours for you.

If it's a valve game, it will keep track with only one player on the server. I don't know if the stats page evga setup for BF3/Bf4/Hardline does or not. Should be easy to test.

In Battlefield 4 (and assuming BFH works the same) the round doesn't start until there are 4 people in the server.  Whatever you do in the round before 4 people join won't count; all of your kills/deaths don't record.  So the time in the server with less than 4 people most likely will not count towards the eVGA contest.

Easy way to test it, connect to one of the many empty servers, open up the stats page to see if it updates timed played. Kills/death/score won't, but that doesn't matter during the event.

You know, I have been looking at Hardline for awhile, but seeing the complaints about the game, I cannot see the urge to drop $60.00 on that game... EA is obviously greedy, and they have no hesitation or intention to drop the price on it at all, knowing that many people stopped playing it, or don't bother to play it. Obviously they don't care, they got their money. Maybe the sales are still really good, I Don't know, but seeing the complaints, I can't do it. The game looks similar to Pay Day 2, or the upcoming Breach from Ubisoft (correct me if I'm wrong on either title.), which was good for me. So, that's why I was interested in Hardline, but with so many bad ratings on Hardline...I have to pass, at least until it's $20.

pick up CS:GO on steam for all of $15 or whatever it is and play that.

Hardline is a failure because BF4 was also a failure. I think a lot of people got burned on BF4 and stayed away from Hardline because of it. (Myself included). If anything I'd be more likely to reinstall BF3 and play that than buy Hardline.

+1  Not too difficult.

I would much rather have choices and variety than being stuck with only one choice (boring).  Still not sure how having choices makes it overly complicated, the differences are explained very well and lets people play how they like.

I have BF3 and BF4 and both are nominally DOA thanks to problems with Origin and the problems with the games generally
 
EA needs to get their act together or they are going to have real problems selling games
 

Honestly I highly doubt I'll ever buy another BF game. I've seen them run some games into the ground pretty bad with the non-stop updates.
 
I didn't play BF2, but I know people who did and they said for the entire life of the game DICE was always tampering with the updates and never left it alone which meant they were always screwing up new things. Well BF3 I did play and this held true as well, so I refused to get BF4, also because they changed certain things I wasn't fond of. I even had a friend who offered to buy me BF4 to play it with him but I told him don't waste his money.
 
Another game that had great potential was Titanfall.
