Hey guys...Am I reading this article correctly? Is there no way to disable win 10 automatic driver updates? I guess I can live with security and system updates being automatic, but there is no way i'm using an operating system that doesn't allow me to disable windows driver updates. Is there a version of Windows 10 that allows you to disable automatic updates? http://www.forbes.com/sit...x&partner=yahootix

Yes, your reading it right. Home is automated, and pro lets you defer them for 8 months and at that time they install. Enterprise is the only one that gives you the ability to disable indefinitely. Hopefully, either a app comes out to work around it or Microsoft rethinks that dismal policy!

No free upgrades for me. Come on Microsoft!...give the people the option. I shouldn't need a 3rd party app. to disable auto driver updates.

It happened to me in the 10130 preview. I was folding on a 660ti and the 326.80 beta drivers and win10 updated my drivers in the middle of the night and middle of a work unit. Work unit was lost by the time I found it and computer idle after restart. Needless to say, I sent some angry feedback telling them they should leave hardware drivers alone in general and not force them at the very least.

Man what BS. How can they not see that this will be a total disaster? Eight months after release everyone will be having graphic driver issues.

Would be helpful if they still had an 'optional' classification for updates, so things like NVidia drivers could sit there. I ONLY want the basic driver and physx, I don't want HD Audio, 3D drivers, and I don't want the GeForce experience. In fact I'm strongly considering cancelling my free W10 update for this forced update reason.

Ya, and what makes it really suck rocks, beside a situation like yodaps, is that when windows update comes on it sucks all the cpu cycles down and takes over your net connection too, so everything crashes, locks etc... and if your gaming at the time it really drives you mad. I wouldn't do the upgrade anyway, just because 7 is too good to lose forever..... yes I know you can roll back for a certain amount of time yada, yada, yada etc..... and 10 is just not compelling enough, imo, for me to want it right from the start. I will probably wait about a year and maybe buy it then when their is a good base of games that utilize dx12, they put out a service pack or whatever they want to call it now and their are some apps out there to combat redmonds dim witted decisions they made.

Miss informed umm i game all the time right now on Windows 10 while windows update runs and geuess what system has no lag and windows update does not eat up all your CPU so quit spouting false things. Also the fact is since your gamer why would you not want to be on the latest OS with all the latest OS optimizations for gaming Right out of the gate DX12 improves existing games by better utilizing the CPU and properly Threading out workloads. oh WT you wait a year to pay for windows 10 when it is currently Freee and once you get it it is your forever what thinking is this crap

There is no way to click pause download button on Windows 10 update, right? (for bandwidth reason) Good thing, I got Windows 8.1 Pro license from friend of mine. I am planning get Windows 10 Pro.

Do you have any sources that show this to be the case? I'd be interested to see some evidence (comparisons) that DX9, 10, or 11 games work better using a DX12 capable OS even though the game itself isn't coded to use DX12.

This post is useless...I don't care if its "free". Of course I want DX 12 and Win 10. I don't want 3 "free" copies of Win 10 home if it is dumbed down with no control. I want an OS I can control the driver updates...period!. Did you read the linked article? Uncontrolable updates are causing problems. Same crap with Microsoft with every new OS release. Something in the OS most users want to control or disable, Microsoft makes it so you can't.

yes i have proof the fact my games are running better then they did in windows 8.1 and multitasking is much smoother on my system while i got a game on . here is a test done on the API as DX12 reduces the CPU overhead that causes CPU limted games to well be CPU limited and effectivly makes Draw calls much faster less waiting between the CPU and GPU and this can be seen now . of course games and or applications that are direct programmed for DX12 can and will see even more performance this tho out of box is really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc4dsiq-I7g

I was hoping you had some DX11 game benchmarks showing the difference running on Win10 vs Win7 or 8.1. That's what I was asking for as proof to your claim above. That 3DMark DX12 API overhead test was written (coded) to run on DX12 and DX11 where current games are not. I don't imagine anyone not agreeing that DX12 will be great for gaming once new games are written to use it. I played a few games I have running Win10 and those same games then on Win7. I didn't see any performance difference. I don't multitask while gaming so I can't comment on that aspect. When I'm gaming, that's all I'm doing. The only things running in the background are what's needed to run the OS and the game. If you do come across any of those benchmark comparisons, it would be interesting to see them...

( Not my videos or Rig) well here is a couple of test gaming 2 project cars video first one is Windows 7 vs windows 10 tho this video is from march so a very very old build of 10 it shows a huge differant in performance good performance boost over windows 7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuSoi7HAnkw And if you notice in both videos or least the first one you will also notice while PC has more FPS the CPU usage is lower then windows 7 Now this one is Windows 8.1 vs Windows 10 newer build but also shows a performance leap on windows 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzFe5OOHZko So anyways yea this is just 1 game but still shows that by default windows 10 runs the same game at better performance more FPS while keeping CPU usage much lower much more optimised windows 10 is because of Directx 12 despite the fact the game was and is a DX11.1 game Mind you this guy is running older version of windows 10 as this is from MAy

yodap More fuel for the fire. From a win 10 forum I follow. http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/25/windows-10-automatic-update-problems/
sheesh agian those auto updates are for Windows 10 home users only not windows 10 pro users and on windows 10 pro you can defer updates up to 8 months or so . i dont have an issue with updates anyways never really have and for Home users i think it is great because well people like mom or aunt or so who never end up updasting because they have no nohow on this this is perfect for Home users so it keeps them updated and safe

So setting the windows update service inside services.msc to disabled doesn't stop the updating?

If you uninstall an update in W10, Windows update detects it and will eventually stop giving you ANY updates at all, security or otherwise, until you reinstall that update. That's how nasty and vindictive these MS asshats are, and how determined they are to shove their crap down your throat and tell you how much you like it.

Miss informed umm i game all the time right now on Windows 10 while windows update runs and geuess what system has no lag and windows update does not eat up all your CPU so quit spouting false things. Also the fact is since your gamer why would you not want to be on the latest OS with all the latest OS optimizations for gaming Right out of the gate DX12 improves existing games by better utilizing the CPU and properly Threading out workloads. oh WT you wait a year to pay for windows 10 when it is currently Freee and once you get it it is your forever what thinking is this crap Do you have any sources that show this to be the case? I'd be interested to see some evidence (comparisons) that DX9, 10, or 11 games work better using a DX12 capable OS even though the game itself isn't coded to use DX12. yes i have proof the fact my games are running better then they did in windows 8.1 and multitasking is much smoother on my system while i got a game on . here is a test done on the API as DX12 reduces the CPU overhead that causes CPU limted games to well be CPU limited and effectivly makes Draw calls much faster less waiting between the CPU and GPU and this can be seen now . of course games and or applications that are direct programmed for DX12 can and will see even more performance this tho out of box is really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc4dsiq-I7g I was hoping you had some DX11 game benchmarks showing the difference running on Win10 vs Win7 or 8.1. I guess using AMD cards works better on Win10 in those scenario's. But I have to be honest with you, even if you (I) could get a few more FPS or even 20 more, it's not incentive enough to make me want to use my Win7 license to have Win10. I also don't have any issue's running my games on my current setup that I need more performance. When games are coded to use DX12 I'll use a "purchased" copy on Win10 for gaming. Maybe by then Win10 will be an OS that will make me want to retire my Win7 OS. We'll see...

LJennings MS is releasing an app to block updates: http://www.windowscentral.com/dont-want-mandatory-windows-10-updates-microsoft-has-tool-block-some Will not be "included" in Windows 10, but can be downloaded from MS.
Well, this is good, but geez!, why not just make a toggle deep in advanced hardware settings to disable driver updates. Not a stupid seperate tool. HOPEFULLY, they will be reversing this very soon after the initial backlash. Its not a matter of 'if' but 'when' I think. Once people upgrade to Win10 and start getting screwed over, with irrelevant driver updates, it will be an end to this stupid no blocking of updates policy; at least thats the hope, if MS comes to its senses. Advanced users need to have an option for disabling any update.

Exxxtacy Wow seriously!...So, with the pro version windows 10 update will overwrite my Nvidia driver with the windows version in 8 months??. Figures... I have 3 copies of win 7 home premium. No free upgrades for me. Come on Microsoft!...give the people the option. I shouldn't need a 3rd party app. to disable auto driver updates.

Here you go >> http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/windows-8-1-vs-10-graphics-performance-review,1.html Not the big performance jump you describe. Actually, in most cases 8.1 & 10 are equal in FPS with Win10 barely more in others.

Hey guys, I was looking at all these different tools to disable the driver updates and everything else in Windows 10 and all of them still seem to have some issue. I think I found something that you can customize that won't force you to update anything and that just works and maybe some of you already even have it.
