Well to Start I am new to this site but I have my fair share in Computers over the years. I upgraded from the 2 x GTX560ti to  2 x GTX 780 6Gb (Refurbished)
I was running CPUID playing GTA V when I noticed that one card was running a bit hotter than the other Even in idle. Top GPU was at 50c and the bottom was at 25c. I figured that it was running hotter because of the clearance it has since I had an SLI setup with the Stock EVGA cooler. I did some looking around and found people were only seeing a 10 to 15c difference with a similar setup. So I did a Stress test with FurMark Top Card reached 91c and the bottom stayed steady at 74c on a 20min run. Top card reached 91c with in 8 mins of running and the fans running at 100% I am surprised it didn't shut down right away. for a little while I just took it easy and then the other day I was replacing my AMD 8120 and I had extra thermal compound so I did some tearing apart. I found that who ever did the work to refurbish these cards did a piss poor job. One card had too much compound and was completely running off, and the card I was having issues with had air bubbles and was dried up.  Was wondering if anyone else has ever ran into issues like this with their EVGA referb cards or even their new cards? I have upload a couple pictures of it.

I have done the stress test with The new compound and it was a huge difference. Top card 83c bottom 72c with 20mins on FurMark

This seems to be very common, seems everyone has there own process for thermal material applications. I always pull every card I get apart when new and check for pad placement and reapply compound.  One of my brand new 980 Classy's TIM was just as yours was, the other was almost perfect however one memory chip was only half covered by thermal pad.

But good thing you caught this early, may have prolonged the life of your card.

That's crazy you kinda hope with the money you are spending they would at least have a better quality control. Even with referbs they are sent in for issues and they send it back out with more.
