EDIT: QUESTION ANSWERED. EVGA GTX 750 ti works just fine in my EVGA nForce 650i Ultra motherboard. Confirmed via actual test on 07/29/2015.-------------------------------------- Hi guys, Yes, I know this is an ancient mobo. I know the advice will be "upgrade your cpu/mobo/etc." Already on top of that. I'm building a completely new system for myself. However, I want to repurpose the existing system as a second box for World of Warcraft (for the wife). My requirements are a GPU as fast as or faster than my vanilla GTX 560, cheap, and displayport (she'll be using an Apple Cinema Display, pre-Thunderbolt). The 750 ti fits the bill very nicely. My concern is the lack of UEFI bios in the 650i Ultra. Can anyone here confirm still using this motherboard with a modern GPU? EDIT: I can't post links, so, absent that: I was considering an EVGA GTC 750 ti, but might lean towards an MSI variant with dual-bios feature. The EVGA has EVGA's legendary support, and a higher base/turbo clock rate. I also like the size (not even close to a requirement, just noting that I like it). However, the MSI has a dual-bios and a legacy switch that allows for compatibility with older motherboards. HP and their poor bios support is often cited as a reason for preferring this card. (Note, not considering it "poor" support for my mobo, as the mobo is from 2007. There was never an expectation of a bios update in 2012+, though a bugfix bios update to P04 would have been nice!) Anyway, any feedback is welcome. And again, this is for repurposing old hardware for a 2nd WoW box. I KNOW I need a new CPU/GPU/mobo, etc. Skylake/Pascal :)

I went through with the purchase of the EVGA GTC 750 ti SC. I realized that the MSI doesn't have Displayport. Additionally, I found two references to people using this exact card with nForce boards, specifically, 650i (didn't state if Ultra or SLI) and 680i SLI. So, I'm rolling the dice.

The highest card you'd be able to run on the 650i Nforce board would be a 680. Anything in the 700 series or up will not work. NewEgg has a refurb 650ti if you act fast.

Are you stating your position based on opinon, or have you personally slotted an EVGA 750 ti into an EVGA nForce 650i Ultra and gotten issues with the bios? THAT is the kind of evidence that I was looking for, and so far (on other websites), I've had only two people say they've tried it, and both said that it worked.

I can now affirmatively state that the EVGA GeForce GTX 750 ti SC works FABULOUSLY on my EVGA nForce 650i Ultra, no issues :) Just plug and play (and reinstall drivers, of course).

THAT is the kind of evidence that I was looking for, and so far (on other websites), I've had only two people say they've tried it, and both said that it worked.
Just for laughs, I tried a Titan on an Nforce 6, and 730a board, and it didn't work. (I was trying for the most absurd "Brawn" achievement in 3Dmark), also tried a 960 and a 980. A 680 Classified worked fine. I've also tried a 960 on an Asus P5N-D, which is a 750i board, and it didn't work, even with a BIOS update. Personally, I haven't seen a 700-series card or higher work in an Nforce board, but people report that it does happen, like ball lightning, Sasquatch sightings, or people mysteriously disappearing in the mountains. If it does work, then you're one of the lucky ones, as many calls that I've taken where someone's trying to use any sort of Maxwell card on a non-UEFI board, it doesn't work. What are the full specs on the system that you're using?

I wouldn't expect a 960 card to work but it is possible a 750ti might work but of course that is not guaranteed.

I'm starting to think the same. Everytime I've heard of this issue, it was a pre-built. And honestly, they weren't legacy mobos either. They were mostly 1st gen UEFI boards that didn't have an update that allowed you to select between Legacy and UEFI for the GPU. Everytime I've seen a person take a retail board with a Maxwell GPU, it's worked so far. Go read the negative reviews on Amazon or Newegg for your 750 ti and 960. I swear, every negative review starts with "doesn't work on my HP (insert model number here)." Granted, I'm not confident in this. If someone asks me if a Maxwell card will work with their legacy non-UEFI mobo, I'll tell them 50/50, go ahead and roll the dice. I'm just glad that it worked in my case. Actually, I take that back. I wish that it hadn't worked. I was trying to get my wife to let me buy a G3258 + new mobo + DDR3 8GB for a budget build, but now that this card works, I'm stuck with the mobo even longer!
