A Google search seems to throw up a lot of red flags, as the main issue seems to be this auto update crap. I have 2 980 Ti's and I work on 2 monitors, game on one. Should I bother upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 or should I wait? For those that have upgraded, what issues have you encountered? How is the performance? I noticed a big performance increase in certain games when I went from Windows 7 to 8.1, so I'm curious to know if we're getting any boost this time around as well.

Auto update isn't a big issue and it can be fixed. Auto-update would be a much larger concern in a corporate environment but that can still be adjusted by using the new GUI WSUS client that's out for windows 10 with server 2012. Considering the upgrade just starting going out its probably too early to tell, I won't be upgrading till tonight but I was in the fast ring with windows insider and there haven't been that many issues. DX12 will be a big performance increase once developers start using it so yes you should upgrade, do you need to do it right away? No you don't.

SLI is broken. It has been broken for more than two months. If i had the choice I would NOT install windows 10 until SLI is fixed within the Nvidia Drivers for windows 10. Using SLI causes ANY gaming to overload the memory (thinking that you have combined memory for example with 980tis 12gb of Vram) until eventually you receive a direct X crash for Error "out of memory" check your virtual memory. I've seen it called a "memory leak" on the geforce forum and even though there has been numerous drivers released over the past two months for Windows 10 it has not yet been addressed. If this wasn't a brand new build I would switch back to windows 8.1 in a heartbeat until it is fixed.

I've been using it since the tech preview was released, only during one or two of the builds did I get some nvdll crash issues, but usually a driver change fixed that. SLI has worked fine since the beginning and still works for me, I have never seen it broken. I was running 2 GTX 660s at first. A few builds back I did get some stuttering on Blops using SLI with 2 GTX 980 FTWs but disabling fixed it. I think that was when GeForce released the first official windows 10 test driver. I haven't seen the stuttering in a while. Driver 353.62 seems to work great with Win10Pro and DSR even worked with my 980 before I sent them in for a step up, and it also works with my 660s. IMHO 10 has been better than 8 or 8.1 since the first technical build, but dont take my word for it. try it yourself, you can always rollback, or at least you had that option in the technical stage. I will say this about windows 10 thought, I have a laptop that runs an Intel 2500 and a 555 with optimus and there are no drivers yet to make this work properly, I had to force a set of old drivers so it would work. I eventually rolled it back so I could play some older XP games. XP era games don't seem to work with WIN10 in compatibility mode but on Win7 compatibility mode will still play them.

I have never early adopted a new OS from M$. I usually wait about 6 months personally (atleast 6) before upgrading. it actually took me longer to move to windows 7 from XP, skipped the whole vista and vista 2(windows 8). I'll see how windows 10 shapes up over the next few months before subjecting my computer to that abuse.

So it looks like we'd better play it safe and not upgrade if we have an SLI setup. Every forum I visit seems to have that as a key issue with Windows 10.

I want to upgrade to Windows 10 but words of wisdom keep resounding in my head. "Do not fix what is not broken." I finally have my new PC build running the way I intended on Windows 7 Ultimate. I am not looking forward to the typical compatibility issues that arise with new O/S. However, the new Xbox One integration features are tempting.

currently there is a problem with many people who got the free upgrade, windows refuses to activate. Surely it's because of Microsoft servers getting pounded. Some persons after trying around 80 times got through.Just a note for others.

I did my wife's laptop today , I figured it should be the one to take the bullet . An almost new Toshiba that had 8.1 on it . She said she had to have it & never used it She took one look at the interface & said nope. $400.00 plus tax later she still won't touch it . But I can't use it either , thus it gats the upgrade....hehe... It went along fine , Office Home & Student 2007 still works (surprisingly) , the desktop looks the same , all my other goodies I had are still there (CC Cleaner , Malwarebytes , Defraggler..etc) . Only thing gone was the gui program to make 5.1 look like Windows 7 . Didn't even mess up my wi-fi settings .

Yes it will and unless you don't want DX12 you'll need to upgrade to 10 eventually (as games support it) As with any OS stuff with be incompatible or have issues for awhile but it all gets ironed out in a month or so. This release has so far been pretty smooth and I haven't really noticed any issues. I honestly liked windows 8.1 better Windows 10 feels like they went back to basics and hand holding so it'll take some time for me to tweak everything to how I want it. The resource management features built into 8.1 are there in windows 10 as well as their based on it so its not going to be anything huge in terms of an increase but you will notice some improvements.

DX12 games probably won't start appearing until the end of this year. Once a game is coded for DX12 and you have a DX12 compatible card you should see performance improvements.
