Microsoft is charging $1.49 a month (or the bulk discount of $9.99 a year).

    Meh..
There are ads in the Windows Phone games. They are mostly ads for other Microsoft games.
Attached is a screenshot from Mine Sweeper and Solitaire in Windows Phone 8.1.
    Other games have similar ads.
Have we seen a screenshot of ads in Solitaire?

Have they no shame? What's next, AdBlockPlus for Windows? Contrary to the article, I don't think it will affect my decision on whether or not I'll upgrade.

Maybe someday, Microsoft will make you pay to unlock folders too. I have seen the future and it sucks.

next on the chopping block, Microsoft will sell you the ability to use all your cores at 10.99/mo per core, and Intel requires to be able to use all cores in their cpu's you install Windows because Microsoft is paying them. Taht is the future.

It doesn't surprise me from Microsoft. The good news in this is it will make people learn how to use the net to find a way to block it. They will learn how to block other annoying ads along the way.

Wait until your 'tiles' start turning into ads, and you have to wait until the ad finishes before you can use your app. I can see this happening. Then they'll hold your desktop for ransom - a few $ a month to block the ads - but ONLY the ads they deem not important - you'll still get some ads, and they will have some convoluted bs reason that they are doing it for your benefit because you really want to see those special ads, even if you don't think you do. Sound familiar? Sure does.

If I see one more ad in the next 60secs, I'm going to scream!

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Wish something could be done about the ad-boom past year or two and it's getting worse,

I can't even look at MSN unless I disable ABP. I abandoned ASRock when their support forums at TweakTown blocked my page with a giant banner telling me to disable my ad blockers becasue they were trying to earn a living. Seriously? What makes them think I would buy a performance oriented PC component based on a popup ad.

I was going to say that rsabatino , you can always just disable your wireless device . It doesn't bother me , and I despise the tons of ads on YouTube now . Can't watch hardly anything w/o skipless PS4 potato ads . That goodness for AdBlock Plus !

I rarely watch youtube these days - ads are just too much. I watch TV maybe once a month now, and when I do, I'm usually ready to toss the thing out the window after 10 or 15 minutes, the amount of advertising is totally insane. I stick to Netflix / Amazon Fire TV etc..

Everyone knew this was going to start. Heck at one point Microsoft was seriously considering making the license for win 10 a monthly fee. This is just the way to ease you into it. Low cost minor intrusion so that down the road you don't complain much when you realize that you require a windows live gold account to go online with you laptop or home PC. Mark my words now its coming. Xbox live but for pc's.

The other thing that royally annoys me is the auto update. I vet my updates because I have been bitten way too many time letting Microsoft just install anything. Now you just have to bend over and take it whether it breaks half your software, bricks your surface or anything else Microsoft failed to qc. The enterprise version is a bit better but even business can only delay an update for a short while before its required.

The sad thing is he's probably not far off. I mean they make so much money already so why do they need more? I mean really.

I'll stop using microsoft when they start incorporating that. It's the main reason I don't own an xbox. I refuse to buy the game, then buy the system and then have to pay to play it online. That's bull. It's the reason I don't play WoW or Planetside 2.

I'm surprised microsoft didn't do something like this, if you keep bing as default search engine, will remove the ads for free.
