Hey guys, gonna pull the trigger on a new PSU soon and was wondering which would be better, the 1300 G2 or the 1000 P2. they are within 10 bucks of each other so i cant decide. i wont be upgrading anytime soon since i got these 980s in a killer trade. other system specs are a 2600k at 4.4, 16gb ddr3 1866 ram, 2 7400 rpm drives and 2 256gb ssds and a lot of fans. i think the 1300 would be overkill for two 980s but it would be the last psu i purchase for some time so im thinking future-proof. but then again the 1000 would still be overkill, just not as future-proof. so let me know your opinions and thanks in advance.

I think you can buy 1000 P2 freely if you plan to stay with single graphic card, SLI or Dual Graphic card. 1000 P2 have Eco Switch and people really love that function. I'm glad because I choose model with Eco Switch because my PSU is overkill and fan is not necessary at all. JacobF have exactly 1000 P2 with GTX980 SLI and he know what is best option. At the end 1000 P2 will be more than enough even for GTX980Ti SLI or TITAN X SLI. For 3 way SLI will be enough but than recommendation is 1200 P2 or 1300 G2.

ill never go more than two cards for sure, its not worth it unless you are into extreme benchmarking imo. so would the 1000 be a better option for me at $10 less?

My 1000 P2 works great with 2 Ti`s but I ordered a 1200 P2 to take advantage of the 50% off coupon, and will be refusing the 1300 G2. I would get a 1200 P2 if you can afford it.

I just bought the 1300 G2, I got it for $150 shipped after taxes and rebates. There was a 10% off coupon a week ago. Even now the 1300 G2 is cheaper than the 1000 P2 on newegg, I'd go with the 1300 G2.

Honestly last month I bought the 1300 G2 and I honestly regret it. I wish I would of just bought the 1000 as I only run a single card so I went way overkill. I was thinking about trying to trade it for a 1000w but I have no idea how that would work so I never posted it.

I'm only running a single card right now as well but that can change. If I'm buying a PSU to last me a long time might as well choose one that will allow upgrades for a long time. Why do you regret buying the 1300 G2 over the 1000 P2? As far as I've seen everywhere the G2 has been cheaper.

1300 G2 is much stronger power supply and performance difference is less than 5%. Only if someone really don't need so much power but need Eco Switch 1000 P2 is better option. Between 1600 G2 and 1200 P2 I choose 1200 P2 and I didn't regret.

I think it was the right choice between the two but still more than you really need. I would have bought the EVGA 850W P2 most probably. I don't really understand why some guys feel better with high wattage PSU's but I don't judge it. I feel better while my PSU is just about right.

Its like saying hey i got this 1000E rig lets power it with 50E power supply if you get what i mean. So far its very silent to i mounted my psu fan downwards because pc sits on desk anyway + there intake below in my case to suck cold air outside case rather.

sahafiec, I have the 1300 G2. Is it more than needed for my current system? Yes, at this time it is. My thoughts are to expand down the road and I want to be able to have enough on hand to meet that expansion instead of wishing I did when I have to spend a lot more money later for a larger PSU to handle it. Besides, and this is just me, but a higher output PSU tends to idle more keeping the fan noise down.

I will never buy in life less than 1000W PSU. Why? Better cold and silent PSU. These days I will sell my Seasonic X-750 and than I will wait results and impressions of SuperNOVA 1000 T2. If everything is fine as with other models after new year maybe I will evolve on Titanium standard. That's OK because G2/P2/T2 models are reputable in my country and probably I can't lose nothing in transfer.

Umm the proper way to mount a PSU is so the fan is facing down. This is because it pulls air from under instead of interrupting airflow inside of the case, or instead of pulling air that may be warmer. So technically you mounted it proper, lol.

If you keep case on floor with PSU facing down always pay attention to everything under case is clean. PSU can't pull dust with Air. It's not wrong if someone install PSU with grill on top and PSU pull air from case. Only if ambient temps inside case are not high. Some older PC case no mesh on PSU place and in that case PSU need to be installed with grill on top to pull air from case.

whiskers54 sahafiec, I have the 1300 G2. I understand your point and the idea behind. but I also keep in mind that with the newest technologies (lithography, nanotechnology, energy efficiency) all the pc parts need even less energy. what this means to me is that you can build the very same rig using less power than before. noise is also no more an issue anyway after the latest Eco mode introduction. I never saw the fan of my EVGA 750W G2 spin during the 6 months of use until now. to make the long story short how much can you expand a rig to really need 1300W PSU (unless extreme OC, LN2 etc.)? you could come close by going with 4 x TitanX SC for example, but you need the right mainboard and cpu as well. it's always the same game between "need to have" and "nice to have" - I like to keep them close but no one else needs to do so. that's why I said I don't judge feeling good while having more than ever will be needed. @Vlada011 I know you my friend, you love to have much more than enough and that's OK. even with your dream system you'll never come close to need more than 650W, unless you go LN2. remember TitanX SC is 250W, your cpu 140W, the rams altogether maybe 20W and that's all. even EVGA 650W P2 would be more than enough power for your rig BUT I know you feel happier when you have >1000W. JonnyGuru: "add your graphics cards TDP's (if more than one), add your cpu TDP and to be safe add another 100W"

A long time ago I had a GTX 470. Later on, I ended having two. Then I sold them and ended up with two GTX 480s. I don't know why but I ended up buying a third GTX 480 for a good price. Did I ever see myself having three GTX 480s? No, but I'm glad I had an AX1200 PSU to power them when I did. For those who don't know, the GTX 480s were power hungry and ran hot. Just imagine having three Titan X's I guess lol

I have a 850watt psu I bought from Thermaltake about three years ago when I built my PC. I'm thinking about getting a 1000W psu just cause I have the 50 percent off coupon..and it expires in 30 days..>< I know with my little rig I don't need it. and the only other additions I plan to have is a second monitor. But do you guys think its worth to purchase one just because I have a 50 percent off coupon? I was wondering whats the difference between the 1000W P2 and the 1000W G2? Shoot there is also a PS and a GS..lol but I only see things about the P2 version so I am assuming its a good unit.
