Made a small HTPC build out of some old socket 1366 components I had lying around...
SPECS:
Asus Rampage II Gene
I7 920
Coolermaster Hyper212 EVO
3 x 2GB Corsair DDR3
Kingston HyperX SSD
WD Caviar Green
GTX 750 Ti
Windows 7 64 SP1
Enermax Modu82 520W Power Supply
Dell 3007WFP-HC
Everything was running fine. I packed everything up after testing and shipped it to myself, as I was moving back to my country of origin.
When I arrived, I was horrified with the extent to which customs officials had violated the components... But whatever, I took everything apart and meticulously revived the machine. It wouldn't POST, but after nights of trial and error, I finally got thinks to work again. The CPU was the culprit, needed to be reseated.
Anyway, my problem now is that the Video card only works in Standard VGA mode. When I install NVIDIA drivers, the computer boots but once it gets to the Starting Windows screen the display gets corrupted. I tried removing the drivers in safe mode, and reinstalling in safe mode but that doesn't help. I tried using the driver from Windows Update, also no success. Tried just the graphic driver only, nothing else... Tried different PCI Ex slot...
Can I rule out a GPU hardware defect if it works in low resolution "Standard VGA" mode ...? Or do you guys think it's a software issue? I can't RMA, I'm outside the country, I just wanna know if it's salvageable or not. I've searched the forums for similar problems with no luck, anything else I could try?
