Hey Guy's,
Another hot day here, 37'c today,
had to shut all my gear down, 4 computers total as my workroom was at 45'c. Not good for the GPU's with no cool air to cool them.

First time had to shutdown because of the heat. Really quiet in here, still not used to no fan noises.

Anyone else the same??

OH yeah, tomorrow is maintenance day, blow out all the gpu and cpu heatsinks,
power supplies and clean all the filters/fan blades.

Then all ready for back to full production again once it gets a little cooler..

Most if the month of June was in excess of 37c here in Florida. We are just starting to get rain as of the last week and half (and that helps).
My PC room has been very difficult to keep cool. Lots of fans blowing. Not enough to shut it down though. Very high power bill!

My house has central air and I installed a window air conditioner in my computer room to keep it cool.
As a result my power bill went up drastically but the PCs stay nice and cool.

That's why I started water cooling, it was too hot otherwise. We've got central AC, but in the summer with temps getting 43C or better it was too hot with air cooling even with the AC running.

Edit: then again, I'm not running multiple computers in one room either...I can't imagine how hot that must feel in the summer.

Every PC I have is water cooled as well just wonder what the bills will look like after my next build is complete.
Still have a few parts to purchase kind of slow one part per month, fixed income makes it hard.

Yep....Hot and muggy in New England too. I have an ac in the office so it stays cool but cooling and heating the air gets expensive so I can only fold a week or so a month

It gets too hot/expensive to fold, I understand that. It happens to me even in the U.K. (just not very often).
Can somebody explain to me the thought behind water cooling  not heating the room as much ?
A CPU/GPU creates "X" watts of heat. That is soaked by by a block of metal or a loop of water and in both instances blown into the room. Leastways my cheap watercooled loop does.
Are you blowing the exhaust air from the radiators outside of the building ?

I am down on the 780ti system due to a couple of leaking fittings.  I have links on the way to correct the issue and be done with leaks.

That is the only thing that helps where I am - rain. It got over 100 degrees F today in the shade.
    I am in Florida also.

Back folding and crunching here, dropped to 27'c, workshop is down to 26'c.
Hope you guy's get back folding soon...

Also wondering, water cooling question asked by 146Kilos....

Is the difference between air and water coolers, that air cooled cpu's generally run hotter with conventional heatsinks, less efficient??
against the water cooled radiator which has a lower temp, most water cooled cpu's are a lot cooler.. (from my experience) which would mean less heat in the room????

It's muggy and warm in the Netherlands yesterday and today but I have additional fans blowing on my GPUs and Precision is throttling the GPUs at 83 degrees which is fine.

My point is that the CPU/GPU is stiil cooled by air in the room whether you transfer the heat via a metal block cooled by air blown into the room or via liquid into a radiator cooled by air blown into the room.
Unless you exhaust the hot air into another room or outside you may cool the CPU/GPU to a lower temperature using liquid, but the amount of heat transferred into the room would be the same for liquid or air cooling. Maybe there would be more volume of not so hot air using liquid, but the same amount of heat energy in either case would be transferred into the room.

You are correct. X amount of heat is generated by the system regardless of it being water or air cooled. Any statement that your room will stay the cooler with water cooling is incorrect, unless the heat is being pumped outside.

The advantage of water cooling when it is hot like this, is that your ambient temp can be significantly higher than if you are air cooling, and you do not have to worry about overheating (when configured correctly).

For example, I live in Texas and currently the temps are sitting around 100F (38C) as the high each day. I also have all except a couple of my 970's on water. In the summer i try and keep the majority of my folding rigs in the same room so the entire house doesn't heat up, and then put a fan in the window to pump out the hot air. The highest temp I have recorded was 126F (52C) in that room. The 970's with the fans set to 100% were at 83C and starting to down clock. The three quad SLI 980 systems with a slight overclock, were sitting at 68C-72C. While this isn't the method for everyone, it can be quite effective at cutting down on the electric bill. You just have to be careful to monitor all of your temps, and not just the CPU/GPU.

    Shiftfreeride,
I live in Florida and use the same method as you to keep the room with the PCs cool. It has been over 100 F every day here. The room temp is somewhere around 82 to 89 F and the cards run in the 60s. The rest of the house stays around 74 F.

Sorry for the confusion there guys, the links I posted were for the OP, HK-Steve, they were simply for information purposes only. For water-cooling and alternatives. Both of you are correct. But also keep in mind most custom loops I have seen have several large radiators that can multiply the actual cooling surfaces by many times, extending the time it takes for heat energy to be transfered to the rest of your house, which can reduce load and help maintain the cooling threshold of an HVAC system. The point at where your AC just cant keep temps below ambient. Over time it wont make a difference like here in Florida where mine reaches that point at about 3 P.M. whether a pc is on, water-cooled or not. Its just too freakin hot! I have found that setting my ac to drop to 65* at 4 A.M. can help too (although the wife hates it) as can keeping windows covered and doors shuts I can keep the house below 80 until about 4 P.M. and pray for rain! Now, if your in and enclosed room with no airflow, watercooling a pc wont help at all, or nearly as much as not turning it on, LOL

You can also try installing a portable ac unit and closing return vents in your pc room to help it out also.

    Hope this helps.
