Should I be concerned with a used GTX 970 from Amazon?

Well, I just got a used GTX 970 SSC 2.0+ from Amazon Wharehouse yesterday, and everything looks about right, except the serial? On the back of the box there is a serial sticker with a window cutout that says "Make sure these two numbers match", but there is nothing to match it to? I tried comparing the serial number with the two other stickers on the pcb, but they are completely different numbers. Here is a picture:

Are these serial stickers removed when being sold used, or should I be returning this? I was going to call eVga, but they're closed today for holiday. Please help!

I would be personally suspicious of anything that has its serial numbers missing. For all you know someone ordered a new board from Amazon and swapped the guts out with a broken board and then returned it for credit.

Maybe that's why the serial number was covered up with another sticker, which I thought was very odd. If you look at the image I posted, you can see some sticky residue above the serial sticker on the box. That's from me having to peel a random LPN RR barcode sticker that was stuck over the serial sticker, as if someone was trying to hide it. If this is the case of someone abusing Amazon return policy, I'd love to provide furthers details to eVga to see if they can catch the culprit.

Will wait and see if anyone else can offer some input. Thanks.

PS: The card works great, I'd still like to know if it's possible in anyway to verify it's the SSC 2.0+ model.

You have 30 days to request a return to Amazon and normally they will pay for return shipping. EVGA will reopen in plenty of time to give you their answer as to what actions you should take. I have seen an issue where someone got a box like that for a 780ti and when they installed it GPU-Z informed them it was only a GTX-660. Buyer beware sometimes.

Got off chat with Amazon, they said they will contact the manufacture and get back to me.

Not a problem. Someone will move it for you. Feel free to use your new video board while waiting for an answer from EVGA. Just don't register the product until you know which serial numbers to use.

    Too late!

I was reading it off the box and typing it in. I only noticed afterwards reading the little label "make sure these match". Oh well, hope I can get this sorted out.

They're really good about these things. You shouldn't have any problems.

Was it a refurb. Or a open box? What are the last two letters on the box serial sticker and the card sticker.? It could be the original kr serial number on the box and the card may have a refurb serial sticker with rx,or whatever letter s they use fir refurbish now, either on top of the matching Kr sticker or maybe evga removed that Kr sticker and just replaced it with the refurb sticker. Def check with evga though just to make sure your ok, but I'm pretty sure your gonna be fine. In a case like this if it turns out someone pulled a fast one evga will Def make it right if it comes down to that but I would think Amazon may have to fix this for you before evga would,

It was an open-box item. P/N on the serial sticker on box says "04G-P4-3975-KR".

The actual stickers on the card have no serial #. It's a CIN # and a T#.

    Dear jeffreyl,

I am very sorry to hear of the confusion and for any inconvenience.  I recommend exchanging this card with Amazon for another one with the serial number on the product.  Please understand that without the serial number on the product we cannot be assured that the card is the same one that was shipped in that box originally and because of this we cannot see the available warranty or history for this product.  The warranty on this product would unfortunately not be available due to the information supplied above.

Once again I am very sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Thanks for the reply, but I've registered it using the serial # on the box on my account before realizing this whole ordeal. Can you advise how I should go about getting that sorted out? Thanks!
