Just to know. Since it is very possible that i will win a 980 ti soon i want to know if my current cpu will be a problem. Willl 980 ti run at it full potentital? Or does it need a new cpu too? I am using my pc mainly for gaming and i am playing evry fps, action adventure action rpg, fighter game that releases on pc evry month. In other words i am play all games that fit into these categories that are coming to pc at 1440p DSR

Yes in most games it likely will limit your FPS. Will it stop you from getting a good game play with high settings NO not unless your out of system memory 8GB min. You really should be at 16GB min. for this type of gpu.

But if it is a 2500K then just bump up the multiplier a bit and run it at 3.8 provided you have enough power supply to run the gpu that is if you do then you probably have enough to oc your cpu too. if you have to pick up a couple good case fans for extra air flow and then a good cheap air cooler for your cpu for around 35$ like the cooler master 212 evo.

i2500k is still fine if you overclock it to at least 4.5ghz. Not limiting at all for me. I also have "only" 8Gb or ram and also don't have or had any issues with it. You'll only really need 16Gb of ram if you do video editing, graphic design or something. It's still overkill for gaming and will be for at least a bit longer. By the time it's really needed for gaming you probably will already have bought a new mainboard and cpu.

I know i will, so no point wasting money on the ram for now.

Edit: Forgot to mention i also have a 980ti.

I have an I5 2500k at 3.5Ghz and it performed fine with my old 780 ti at 4k settings, so you should be fine man no worried :) I never had a cpu bottleneck and I run all the bells and whistles in games like bf4 and Crysis 3 :) I plan to get a water cooler for it so I can oc it. I also have a 3770k build which is my main rig, and the performance difference is not too major. just maybe 10 more fps faster depending in the game/ level in game I am in. The I5 with bf4 at max settings with no msaa hit 70% at most with a 64 player server and the building in siege falling down. Just make sure to oc it soon ;)

You would notice a very small performance increase if you spent the $350, but it would be no where near cost effective. I am talking 1-5% increase if any. If you would like more performance at some point then buying another 980ti would give you a much higher performance boost for your money. The SLI would give you 50-80% better performance.

I upgraded an i7 2600k to an i7 4790k and LOST 150 points in both 3dmarks! So I know from expierence that it doesn't help a lot, but then again my 2600k overclocked from 3.4ghz to 4.4ghz (did 5ghz once but it seemed high).

Just stick with sandy bridge I5 it overclocks like a champ! I regret going also from going from a 2600k to a 3770k on my main rig
:( ivy bridges sucks at overclocking and you can get a cheap 2500k on ebay easily and a z77 board :)

I have a 970 G1 GAMING now and i play all games at 1440p DSR. Evrything works pefect even very demanding ones like the bad optimized Evil Within Assasin creed unity or the those with very good graphics like Ryse son of rome. There are a few ones that run well even on 4k like Alien isolation Mortal Kombat X e.t.c. So after careful thought i made my decision. I will waiu until intel release the new Skylake cpus that from what we know so far they will be a big improvement compared to their current cpus. And then in 2016 i will buy a new skylake cpu(possibly 6600k or 6700k) with ddr4 ram and new motherboard. In 2016 2500k will be 5 years old so it will be the perfect time for upgrade anyway. Even know a current high cpu like the core i7 5930 is much more sttonger than a 2011 mid rnge cpu like the 2500k.

2500k was a beast and still hangs in there just fine. Would be a good idea to overclock it though, don't have to go too wild with it even.

I have no trouble with my i5-2500k running at stock clocks with my GTX 970. Check CPU/GPU usage while gaming and if it looks like the CPU is maxing out just overclock it a bit. The only time I do that is for CPU dependent games though like Starcraft 2.

In games with the shader caching on, it should help quite a bit. The shader caching really eliminated a huge amount of the CPU bottleneck in games. Of course, I do have a 4930K and 980Ti. A different setup altogether. However, I did notice a difference when they rolled out shader caching originally.
