Got it.  The crashing is much more realistic!  Takes some getting used to...but all in all...once you get the hang...fantastic!

Yup, I put in 3-4 hours over the weekend. I really enjoy it, especially the 80's-era champ series that I'm in now. Racing my BMW through the woods of Europe is pretty exhilarating. Really fun with my G27, but I feel like I'm cheating by using the paddle shifters.

Yep...  It definitely takes some getting used too.  I have yet to win a race...  Closest I have come in 6 seconds out...  in 2nd place...  once...  A few 3rd place finishes, but mainly 4th - 8th...  It's alot of fun!!

I've had it since the first day it came out on Steam early access. It's one of the few things I've actually had hope in recently. (which is surprising considering Codemasters last few flops)

me 2, i was jumping up and down when i seen it on steam, yea after that first patch the ffb got really good, still needs some tweaks but its damn good, do use use the soft lock im loving the 900 degrees on some of the older cars, the stratos and the rs200 are my favs and the game runs great, i dont have triples anymore i went to a single 43" 4k with the plans on getting two more for 2d surround at some point, the added vertical res makes a big difference. im running at mostly high and some on ultra so i can get a steady fps above 55-60

Yeah, game is great. It is challenging, for once.... Unlike the rest of the Dirt series. I like that this one is more of a simulator.

Long time Dirt and Grid series fan. I have been following this game for a while now. I was thinking about purchasing this but am not sure about the "early access" games. If I pay $37 now (steam price), do i have to pay again when the full version comes out?

No, it just means you're getting access to it earlier than normal. Once purchased, it's purchased for the life of the game.

Thnx brad for clarifying that. So buying this for 37 would be the same as buying the final build for 60? Except I dont have to wait.

Yes, buying it early access just means you're buying it before final release.

I checked it out over the weekend, that looks like a seriously fun game.  I like the lack of energy drink ads, and the comments talking about none of the dude-bro stuff in it that's in some other race games, I know those are not game play, but to me they take away form the game.

Anyone with some real time into it, can you give some Pro's and Cons?

Yep, they actually focused on the rally aspect. That's rare for Codemasters because they like to double dip with paid advertising in their other racing games.

My hope is Codemasters learns from this. Maybe they can shift these people over to the F1 franchise to fix that title once Dirt Rally has run it's course.

i think codies needs to let the f1 license go, there are way better people for the f1 crowd. look at the formula fantasy 1 2015 mod for assetto corsa or the owc mod for rfactor 2, hell even look at the formula extreme in game stock car, all way way way better then codies has done with the f1 license

Re: DIRT Rally!!! 2015/07/14 12:15:46 (permalink)
The problem is Codemasters sees $$$ signs when they think F1 license. The primary driver with the F1 franchise is marketing and publishing rights they are licensed. They're playing off of brand name recognition, not on product quality control. That is a huge mistake on their part when it comes to product design philosophy. Every time intellectual property licensing is involved with a Codemasters product, it's been a driving force (and a big mistake). When there is a lack of pushing some branding, they actually have to focus down on the game mechanics. I think that goes counter to what typically drives Codemasters product funding though. There is proof in that Dirt Rally had to be an early access experimental title. The publisher budget didn't seem to be there like other Codemasters titles. Maybe that was a good thing though. It forced them to focus down and actually work towards making something people will want to buy based on how it functions.

Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the game and it's not just me.  It's seems kind of unusual to have a game thread where the naysayers don't come out and dog it into the ditch.

I have to say though, I can't quite figure out Pikes Peak...  It's hard as heck!!!  What's the trick with that car?  Am I supposed to drift that beast around all of those curves????  Anyone else have problems with PP or all are y'all ready for the big time?!?!

I haven't played this yet, but if you are meaning the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, that is a brutal coarse and very easy to crash or get a terrible time on, that race just might be a learning curve sorta race (not saying anything about your skills as a driver) compared to the others.  Just a thought.

I haven't played this yet, but if you are meaning the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, that is a brutal coarse and very easy to crash or get a terrible time on, that race just might be a learning curve sorta race (not saying anything about your skills as a driver) compared to the others.  Just a thought.

Yea incredibly dangerous. it would prally be the closest thing we have to the Isle of Man TT, tho in some sections more dangerous.  A motorcyclist has lost his life the past 2 years now at the hill climb, and both were veteran riders.
