Thanks EVGA for the 50% off of PSUs, now you're making me want to buy things I don't need.
I currently have a Corsair TX950 PSU that has served me very well for the past 4 years and I am only considering replacing it because of this 50% discount offer.
Right now, my system, measured from a UPS, draws 252 Watts on idle, 470W when gaming (Witcher 3), and 577W when running Fire Strike Extreme. I might consider getting SLI sometime in the future but no plans for the time being. I also have a GTX 580 which can be used as a dedicated PhysX card, It will probably raise my system wattage to 700W on very rare cases.
I was considering the 1300 G2 but I read many complaints about them blowing up so I don't want to risk it. The question comes down to whether getting the 1600 P2/T2 for around $200 or so is worth it. Am I expecting this PSU to stick with me for the next 5 years? Should I sit and wait until my next full build, which I have no plans for?

Appreciate some advice from those who've been through something similar.
My system specs are in my sig.
Thanks

Getting 1600w for only $200 is certainly worth the expense. I paid $300 for my PC Power & Cooling 1200w PSU. It might be overkill but most power supplies are most efficient at 50% load so you will get better efficiency. You have to ask yourself if your wall outlet can handle the extra Amps without being rewired. My whole livingroom is on the same breaker and I have to shut down my AC just to use the microwave if my PC is turned on. The other thing is that as technology gets more advanced the power requirements are dropping. In a few years anything over 1000w might be a thing of the past.

If you don't really need it ,  then just get the 1200 - highly rated

I was tired of waiting around for the 1200P2 that is not going to come back in stock. if you can wait a month get the 1200T2 that will be replacing it. I opted for the 1300 G2. A risky move but I didn't want or need 1600 watts.

Why risky move, all of them are good models, but for 50% discount you should chose 1600 T2.
Never mine if you don't need so much power such situation should be used... PSU with 0dB is nice thing next 5-6-7 years.
You need 3 high end graphic cards under full load to start fan on 1600 T2.
But why people need to think how much is strong PSU, 1200 or 1600W.
Better 1600W fanless mode constantly than PSU where fan spin always and just enough for configuration.
Look on that as one power case, and only performance are important and enough power for anything. Nothing else is not important.
If people pay 150e for 500W because no fan inside, than they could build and 500W overkill with 0RPM mode always.

Like I said I didn't want or need 1600w. Even with the 50% off its still a hundred more than I spent on the 1300gs. $100 for 300 more watts that I don't want. I would have bought the 1200p2 in a heartbeat if in stock. Or even the 1000p2 but my 30 days was running out so I bought the 1300gs that is known to have issues. You might see the 1600w viable at $200 but not me. I see it as a waste of $100, because I'll never need anything overy a 1200w. To each thier own.

Thanks for the responses guys, I would love to wait for the new 1200 T2 but I don't think the offer applies to it and my 30 days would run out before then. I am worried about compatibility issues with new generation CPUs if I consider a new build a year or two from now. Should I even be worried about that? I'm leaning towards the P2 over the T2 since the difference is minimal.
I am pretty sure that 1000W+ PSU are still going to be needed for multiple GPU configurations given that GPU's power draw hasn't lowered in the past 5 years.

well the 1000w P2 is also being replaced by the 1000w T2. They will be out next month hence why I went with the 1300w. if you want p2 your only option is the 1600w.

You get it when you buy a graphics card. It will get automatically applied to a qualifying purchase.

So I if bought a GTX 980ti Classified I would get 50 percent off a PSU, does it have to be from the store.

I believe so. It does have to be from evga store and keep in mind not all PSUs are qualified. New ones like 650/750/850 P2 do not qualify if I am not mistaken.

The discount is sent to you by email when the card is registered. You have 30 days from the registration date to purchase the power supply from the EVGA store.

It`s not sent to you by email, the 50% discount just gets applied if you make a purchase within 30 days of registering your card.
And as far as the 1200 P2 goes, don`t wait for one, they aren`t gonna make any more.
And yes, you onlt get the discount at the store.

50% discount is only for USA and only for some models.
1000 T2 will not be discount probably. I read somewhere that 750W Titanium could cost almost 300$, because that's top quality.
I think that EVGA 1000 T2 will cost about 300$ and that will be best 1KW on the world. Everything over 1KW is for more than 2 graphic cards.
If they give discount after 980Ti K|NGP|N PSU could cost about 150$.
That's better option than to 980Ti KP + 1000 T2 for same money as TITAN X SC.
I would keep both models for me and 1200 P2 and 1000 T2.
Discount is only if buy graphic card in EVGA store?

No one ever said you have to buy the card from EVGA, you can buy it from any retailer you want. You have to buy the qualifying mouse or PSU from the EVGA webstore, within 30 days of registering your card to get the discount, please pay attention

The other thing is that as technology gets more advanced the power requirements are dropping. In a few years anything over 1000w might be a thing of the past.

In my case, it aged very well.  I am amazed at how little power my PC uses.  I can't fathom needing a 1600 watt power supply.
