Update...

https://youtu.be/i5KXax7X3BI

Thanks for posting it, not that it really changes anything. Fact is Newegg have been doing this for years, and there is no way that nobody up top was aware of it - even if it was an error with stock handling - which I don't believe for one second it was - the additional income would have had to been accounted for long before now (I'm talking years).

Is it possible that the VP of Customer Service was totally ignorant of the issue? Maybe, and I say that with a very large grain of salt, but Customer Service and Financial Management live in two very different worlds (I know this from a great deal of experience in both). Bottom line for the real powers in the company is to make money, and as long as the benefit outweighs the cost of making these so-called mistakes, they will continue doing it. Will that change now? Maybe, but I wouldn't hold my breath. 21,000 views of a video that was only up for 24 hours probably isn't going to do it. I'm sure that orders from Carey Holzman will be held out for special treatment though, lol.

It was probably VP of sales that told warehouse workers to place used items back with new ones. How hard is it to keep used/refurbished products in a different section of the warehouse.

Newegg gets a  from me. Not one issue ever.

Newegg gets a meh from me. Remember how many packages I lost from them that I told you about? Ahh its just upsetting me right now just thinking about it. Then I lost one package from EVGA's RMA for one of my 670s I mailed, then my 560's RMA from EVGA's package came 2 days late from the delivery date that was sent to my email. Then I had 2 lost packages from Amazon and then one other package also came 2 days late from the delivery date from Amazon. Last is I had one lost package from ThinkGeek. I hate buying crap online now! Stupid USPS or UPS keeps losing my packages or some one from them or my neighborhood keeps stealing them from me. So continually have to keep filing claims. I guess the whole Newegg boxes that you get that say "contains something awesome inside" appeals to someone to snatch my package away LOL.

I am starting to wonder if NewEgg's employees didn't try to bin the 980 I bought from them. The first 980 came from Tiger-Direct and works like a champ but the matching board I got from NewEgg is a piece of junk.

Yes, I remember. So it's newegg's fault when usps/ups lose your package?

Re: Newegg messing up again... 2015/07/06 14:37:32 (permalink)
Never had a problem with newegg. The 2 times I have gotten defective items from them, not open items and not newegg's mistake, but item issues, I got replacements quickly. Didn't even have to return one once, low cost item not worth it. I have been using them for at least 10 years. I usually go with Newegg or Amazon. I tried Tiger Direct years ago twice, and never will again. They were beyond awful, and for computer parts I don't need the hassle, there are allot of other people to buy from. I did have this happen to me once. I needed a PSU right away and BestBuy had some EVGA one's on sale. Great, hop in the car and go to get it. I picked it up at the service desk, and notice it is not shrink wrapped. So, I open it in front of the service rep. No ties, no wrap, and everything was just floating in the box. Then, I check the cords, maybe I can get something knocked off for open buy I think. I check the cords, and they are sticky. That's weird, why would they be sticky? Then the connectors seemed off to me. Turns out, someone had spray painted or painted the cable connecters to match there case guess I guess. I could believe they excepted the return. I'm not buying it now. I tell the service person, who has no idea what I'm talking about, but realizes I don't want it. I returned it and got something else. Despite everything I told them about that unit and how it shouldn't be sold, I know that box was going back on the self. I saw them repack it and not put it in the back, but on a return to floor shelf. But, it's BestBuy, don't know what else I should have expected.

Newegg is no different from any other, when it comes to customer service, I've had to put a few reps in their place "Just not NW" just wasn't 18year old kids, some reps my age. Ill typically give a shop 2 chance before I never go back. But I've walked out of brick&mortar for less, don't know how many restaurants I've walked out off less that 30seconds after I hit the front door.

I have never had a problem with Newegg or TigerDirect. I still use them both, plus I use Amazon and go to my now fairly local Microcenter.  So in conclusion I haven't had a problem with any of them.

That's nice that they want to make changes now but it sounds like too little, too late for many of us. My last order from Newegg was a brand new retail hard drive (in box) and what I got looked like an OEM drive (no box, paperwork, etc). A lot of other people started complaining about the same issue in the reviews. Customer Service didnt seem to care.

That being said ive had a few issues with Amazon but they were quick to rectify the problem. The only place that has not let me down is Microcenter but thats the perk of buying in person.

I like Amazon's return policy. They even pay for return shipping for me whereas NewEgg makes me pay to ship it to California instead of New Jersey where it shipped from. After that I have to wait a week before anything gets done and then my replacement ships from New Jersey. It just seems whackey to me. The only thing I dislike about Amazon is the added expense of sales tax.

I haven't shopped at newegg in at least 8 years. I never understood why people bother with them, there are always better deals to be had elsewhere.

I only shop Tiger,New Egg and then Amazon because I have Prime, where do you find your deals?

Depends what i'm buying at the time. I do most of my shopping in a MicroCenter store these days though, because i like being able to return defective units instantly and hassle free and hate down time too. And no one touches the prices they have on cpu/mobos either.

Why did he take down the video. He should of left it up to let other consumers to be on the look out for this happening to them.  I wonder if Newegg paid him or gave him gift card to take the video down.

I removed the previous video, not because I was asked to, but because it served its purpose.

I'll continue ordering from Newegg and if I receive another used part from them, I promise you there will be another video!

I don't believe it one bit. He goes to all the trouble to let people know about it only to say "I talked to someone at the company and they made me feel like they will make changes".  How can he say "it served it's purpose". You have to give it 6-12months to see if Newegg did stop being dishonest by sending customers USED products.

Why would i make a video about it. I haven't bought anything from newegg in 2yrs.  I was just surprised to see someone go to all the trouble to make a video about it and not leave it up until he see Newegg did follow through with the changes.  If the issue is as big as he claimed it was, why leave it up so others who have the same problem in the future can let him know about it by commenting on the video.

It is possible that they hired an attorney to go after youtube and explain that the video was a focus to "damage Newegg's reputation", which is called slander, and you can get sued for doing that. Or, yes, he was offered money, and he didn't want to disclose that information.

$200 for an attorney to send a letter to Youtube to "remove the video, or else", or pay the owner of the video $200? hmm...

He has a really good reputation in the community he's not exactly famous but he has not built his business by being a liar...  He has no incentive to try and hurt one of his suppliers reputation as they could cut him off and no longer want to do business with him and that can hurt his business...  He has been in the industry for a very long time and just because he isn't as big as some other guys in tech does not mean he is not one who should be missed...  His podcast is great and a lot of his stories are great as well...  So no he does not have a history of lying and it is not slander...

I've only had one problem with NewEgg, and that was relying on their local shipping option. Ordered a new A/C from them, and they shipped it through their Local Express, since I'm in North OC. They lost the package somewhere in their shipping chain for like a week-and-a-half, but made up for it by refunding my shipping costs.

I'll definitely just use the will-call from now on, though.
