The new LT1 (6.2L) that they are dropping these things are seeing well over 550rwhp-600rwhp completely natural, the LS7 at 7.0 liters was accomplishing those numbers.

I am actually thinking about buying an aluminum LS3 (6.2)bare block off my budy for $700. Then looking for a Fox notch back for under $1k to do a cheap weekend drag car build. I fugure I could build a 550hp 2,900 lb Fox with cage for around $10k. Would be a fun toy.

i would do a big block before a ls3. i wish i would have just went big block and not LS based engine.

Why do they have the French flag or the Luxembourg flag on the door panel?

They are owned by the french now?

Who knows GM might be bought out from a different country in the mid future just like Chrysler/Jeep did with Fiat(Italy) LOL.

That's the American colors, you know, Red, White and Blue. Also showing the car will be built in the US for the first time in decades.

Hmm, interesting. What don't you like about the ls3? Not enough power? Reliability?

Not sure I will need a big block to move a paperweight Mustang along at a decent speed.

Anyway, just a thought at this point.....I do have the itch to build something though.

You will not beat the horsepower per dollar ratio of going the LSX route.  A Chevy Big Block will of course make more power, but at an added cost.

It's all about how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go lol

LS is the "in thing" parts are getting expensive for the worthwhile stuff. For the money i have into just my rotating assembly i could have a 632 short block. bigger motor, easier it is to make power. Big block also has TORQUE. I look at engines for certain things. Mainly bore size. More bore, the better. Big block stuff (esp chevy) is DIRT cheap right now. So much more head room with a big block.

If i had it my way i would do a 5" bore space block and 4.585 bore with a 4.250 stroke. around 555 cubes, long rod will handle 8500rpm all day from a big block and would have at it with a turbo or blower.

small blocks make power, esp the ls3. but the price on some of the stuff is getting up there. the cheap stuff is out there but then you are building a ticking time bomb.

Still does not hold a candle in looks or sexyness of the old 60's Stingrays or Camaros. Too space age looking now.

Motor Trend got 670rwhp out of a stock Hellcat...  That engine makes about 770hp from the factory, definitely a conservative rating.

still a heavy car no matter how you look at it. that car would fly with less weight. car is almost 4500lbs. 1000 less lbs it would be hard to beat for the money

new viper is 1000lbs lighter with 100 less horsepower. and cost is not much more. and in an all out better chassis.

new camaro is 600lbs lighter but between 400-450 hp. not even a contender. nice car dont get me wrong. but the camaro never did it for me. BUT for the price of the hellcat you can step into a z/28 model which is a pretty nice package. but could use more power and on a ls7 based engine its really easy to get more power.

Was a typo, the Camaro is about 800lbs lighter, should be about 450-460hp.  Should be an exhaust, intake and tune away from 500hp.

cam swap on a ls7 with supporting mods can get you over 550rwhp without getting to expensive. put a small turbo on it and its game over.

The beauty of the LSx motors is that there is so much untapped potential in them right from the factory.  Add a few pounds of boost and your easily looking at 600+whp.

I was watching a Drive episode on YT last night and it made a point that we (the automotive) consumer tend to forget, along with the automotive manufacturer.   Everyone it so focused on making big numbers that they seem to completely forget about balance.  Lets take the Hellcat for example.  Big numbers, big car and completely and utterly unforgiving in the hands of a novice.

Now lets take the Camaro or Mustang, both are similar in weight and HP.   You don't need 700+ HP in those cars to have fun.  420-460 is plenty to get you into trouble, but its not so much that it intimidates you because it's making the the car want to oversteer on every corner exit.   (For the Chevy owners, that's what happens when you drive a vehicle energetically in something other than a straight line.   )

Yes the Hellcat is fast, but......

Check out this video. The setup is tailored to the Hellcat with very light turns and barely beats a Camaro ZL1.

Don't want to watch the video? Here is the ending time.

I can't wait to see how badly the specialty models will pummel the competition around the track.  Exciting to think about what they will do with the 1LE, ZL1 and Z28 if anything.  Those cars even in their prior generation are still steps above the competitions newest generation.
