If I install an i7-4970k on a Z87 Stinger that has an older BIOS on it, will it harm the CPU?

I just got a Z87 from another member and am about to install an i7-4790K ..but I don't know if it has the more recent bios for the Devil's Canyon CPU. The motherboard is still in the box right now. I don't have an older CPU to install to be able to update bios first (if it needs it)...  I've pm'ed previous owner and waiting to hear if he had updated the bios on it - I hope so, but maybe he is away for 4th July weekend... and I'm wanting to build new rig over the weekend. :(

I would contact evga jic. They always pick up their phones rather quickly. They usually know about things like this. Just a tip for evga though, they should really use bios flashback like asus so that people can update without having to worry that their chip isn't supported or having to by a cheap $50 chip just to install a bios. 3 bios' on a board is nifty but not so much when you can't flash them without the right chip.

Thanks, contacted previous owner and although it had an older bios, he had been using a G3258 which is classed as 4th gen, same as the i7-4790k I was installing, so it's all good.
