Hello
Just a query after getting the precision X16 tool, (which im not messing with settings of too much) I Have noticed that for some reason the temperature of the GPU in my opinion is excessively high after only a few minutes of running FSX. Steadily rising then peaking at about 98-99 degrees, then the FPS start to drop dramatically and fluctuate Wildly!

Could somebody clarify Please, whether or not this is a usual temperature, if it is an issue what can i do to rectify this???
I would really be grateful for any help and advice please.

Thank you

That is extremely hot and definitely a problem.

    Try these,
    1. Increase the fan speed in Precision X and see if that helps at all.
    2. If that makes little or no difference I would clean all of the dust build up out of the heatsink (If there is any).
    3. If that still doesn't help then the fan may have stopped working (take the side panel off while the system is running and look to see if it's spinning).

    I hope this helps some.

And if those three suggestions don't help, here are two more:
    1) The thermal compound between the core chip and the heatsink could be dried up and in need of replacement. It seems quite unlikely though that it could deteriorate so much. You can remove the heatsink and replace the thermal paste without voiding your warranty (if still under warranty) as long as you don't damage anything in the process.
    2) This may be an indication that the card has failed and needs to be replaced. Replace the card under warranty if still under warranty. Either the core temperature sensor could have failed and is incrorrectly sensing core temperature and causing premature throttling, or the voltage regulation circuitry has failed and is overvolting the core causing it to overheat rapidly.

This is very good advice Gentlemen. It is much appreciated! What out of curiosity is the Temp supposed to be whilst idling/no GPU usage?  A few more things that maybe I should mention, before i turned the fan up from auto to 100% on Manual, it was Hovering around 58c - 61c with no Load, after a few minutes with the fan on 100% it came down to 50c but having read some posts this still seems high, but i dont want to get it to cool, if there is such a thing?! Does it vary for different GPUs what the optimum Temp is? (By the way it is a GT 640!) does someone think it might be best to leave the fan on 100% manual and see if it comes down to 30c? which i have read on another post that 30c is in fact the normal idling Temp of a GPU not so dissiimilar to mine, then test out on FSX whilst still manual 100%!? You know to give it a head start, just to see if the temp doesnt get as high as a process of elimination maybe!!? But im in the dark really about knowing what the numbers should be in certain situations??!! And what detriment if any is there by having the fan on 100% for extended periods of time?

    Thank you again

Another quick one please? Which i think could be the problem if not a contributing factor, is do you once precision X 16 is on your pc have to configure Temperature Hysteresis or does it automatically sort things out in that department?

    Thank you

Your particular gpu should normally idle at 30c (+/- 5c) and reach 50c (+/- 5c) under load afik. Of course those can differ depending on your ambient temps and case airflow.
Give the heatsink a good cleaning (the rest of your system too if needed) and replace the thermal paste.
You can also try running it with the side panel off to factor out airflow issues.

You don't have to mess with that, it defaults to 0c so it follows the set fan curve exactly.

Hello again! I have had a good inspection and cleaned the areas which were discussed! But I have discovered something which is rather alarming (see picture attached) which has made me decide not to re connect the machine to the mains for the time being this very thin wire with a brass connector was flailing around please could somebody tell me if this is redundant or the source of the problem I'm experiencing? Thanks in advance!

I'm not seeing any picture. Maybe try uploading it to photobucket (or similar) and add it that way.
    NVM, it's showing now.
That is a connector for a mini pcie wireless card, I'd just leave it where it was.
