Only had it about a year. Its been working beautifully until recently. I could play games on ultra but recently, it plays for 5-10 min and then starts to chug quite a bit. If Im playing Skyrim and restart it, it tells me my default settings is Medium, where it ran Ultra like glass before. I can only run it on Low now for any length of time. I've uninstalled Steam and the few mods I had and reinstalled everything but it still chugs. Farcry 4 same thing... Low settings where it was High before. Suggestions? PS - PC Case is well ventilated and temps avgs were 70-75.

Thru msconfig I had turned off all the NVidia drivers ~ which regulate fan control ~ so GPU was overheating causing the chugging, and eventually game would freeze. SO... all Nvidia related drivers except 3D ones are up and my GPU is running at 30c now and running all games at ultra again! Whoohoo!!.. so KEEP ON ALL NVIDIA RELATED DRIVERS (except 3D unless used)

Okay, last solution didn't work either. After a while, the card just randomly heats up. Its so odd. Sometimes it'll stay cool for an hour or more and others just for a few minutes. Driver may be the culprit.

    Veganfanatic,

I did what you said, rolled back to and SO FAR (knock on wood) its working! Crossing fingers. Will follow up later.

347.52   I mostly only play Skyrim and Far Cry(s) some older shoot'em ups so no rush to try and crash on newer drivers.

I wiped hard drive and reinstalled my Windows 7 64 and lo and behold, my 660 GTX is running Skyrim like glass again. So chances are I had a virus, something was running in the background, or whatever... just too much flooding the PC after 3 years of minimum maintenance. I will go ahead and apply the new thermal paste when I get it in the mail though. Temps are same as before though yet game is 100% again. Very odd.

LOL.. understood. Anyway, problem is solved. I wiped and reloaded windows. Runs like glass at ultra settings. Just too much junk after 3 years.
