Does Nvidia really need you to sign into Steam in your browser to provide a code? They never did this before... I am a little weary about this...

What is there to be weary about?  Steam is very secure.  This is how I got Batman free and had zero problems redeeming it.

yes, you have to sign in.  this stops you from giving the code away (It is against the NVidia terms and services agreement to give the game away, so this is their DRM I guess).. sign in and get your game.

It doesn't stop people from giving the code away lol, that is how I got my copy (nice person from the forums).  All you have to do is give the person the Geforce game redeem code.

If you redeem the code, and then try to pass it off, and you already have the game, it still links the game to your account as far as I understand.  Once you redeem it and try to load it to someone elses account, it would expire the code.  if you just give the NVidia code to them, it links it to their account.

I'm saying that you can just give anyone the code that came with your video card.  They can then use the code to redeem the game and links it to their account.  Making you sign into Steam to redeem the code and link to your account won't stop anyone from trading codes.  All it did was bypass having to get a Steam code from Nvidia and entering it into Steam.

A while ago, a friend bought 2 video cards, and had 2 game coupons. He cashed one in and I tried to cash in the other. NVIDIA would not let me, because I am in Canada.
Because the game had no DRM at all, he ended up uploading it to me and I simply burned a DVD of the game.

Cryostasis was the game, back when even 9800 GT SLI could not render the game at 800x600 let along try that at 1920x1080

I see the game for sale on Steam but I have that title from back when it was a marketing gimmick.

Steam keys are a lot less problematic compared to the old days when key redemption was so restricted as to be almost useless

I know this.. I said that as well... for those that do NOT know that, and they try to redeem the evga/newegg/amazon code to get the code for the game, lose the code because it registers the game to their account only...  I won't repeat it again.  You KNOW some people will do that.

Alright, I guess I just got confused as to why it's getting repeated then.
