Meh, I would like to buy it, but I am not sure whether to buy it. If there won't be any WB, then it's pretty much useless for me.

Buy LN2 pots.. that is why it says "Built for the EXTREME Overclocker" not "Built for the casual gamer", lol.  Or you could get Universal blocks/Kraken G10

That was totally unnecessary. I buy those GPUs, because I trust EVGA customer service and their quality components. I may be a casual gamer, since I don't have that much time to game, but when I do, I like to have everything on max.

So 1291 MHz +100 could do wonders for me. Even though it sounds low to you.

I bought my first ever EVGA Card yesterday and sadly it was a reference design 980Ti.
Fortunately it overclocks well enough, I got 9300 score in 3D Mark 11 X and now I'm maintaining rank 41 in HOF. Usually runs around 1507MHz and doesn't go above 72-73C at max fan speed.
And it's just a reference design card, Classified should offer you much more. Especially if you go with Watercooling etc, and a custom Bios.
Those kind of things are too risky for my taste, so I'm happy with what I got actually.
78.7% ASIC Quality.

Using a 980Ti SC will give you all of the EXACT same settings you want, for cheaper, and already has a block.  The components on this will do nothing for your casual/occasional gaming. Since it is only a few extra dollars, it makes it worth spending it, but still won't do anything for you that a reference or SC can't do.  So, don't post something that seems very self centered on an open forum and then take it as an attack when someone responds.

"Pretty much useless to me"  ha. There, you answered your own dilemma, don't buy it.. you definitely aren't going to hurt EVGA's pockets, because someone else will buy it. "If there isn't waterblocks, I am not buying it" is just being silly and comes off as someone looking for attention.

Wow, just wow... I do not need anyone's attention. Look at your argumentum ad personam. Look at what you type and then convince me, that you're not laughing at my face. With you expressions like "ha", "lel"..

Will the hybrid cooler or the corsair bracket for h series cpu cooler work with this? Or will the pcb be to different.

Even if EK were to decide not to make a WB for this card (highly unlikely IMHO) SOMEONE WILL. I ran my 980's with the stock (larger than reference design) ACX cooler for 9 months with a modded bios, oc'd with no problems and no overheating before I even purchased the blocks (that are now only $100.) Looking forward to picking up a couple of these or the KPE's just because I prefer to spend more to have higher quality components, and a warranty unprecedented in the gpu market.

just my 2 cents

What I'd like to know is if 14+3 power phases would only really be useful on LN2. Would you say 8+2 would be more than enough for "high but not extreme" overclocking on water?

8+2 would be more than enough for Air and Water.  the voltage fluctuations that occur during extreme benching is what 14+3 is really good for.  With 14+3, they are trying to deliver extremely high clean voltage... you don't need that on water usually, because you aren't pushing that much voltage.

Thanks for the input! Just cancelled my order. They would just be a waste to me, since I'm not doing any LN2 benchmarks.

unless this info is wrong:

Nvidia says that being an enthusiast's graphics card, the GTX 980 Ti has been designed for overclocking and implements a six-phase power supply with overvoltage capability. An additional two-phase power supply is dedicated for the board's GDDR5 memory. This 6+2 phase design supplies GTX 980 Ti with more than enough power, even when the board is overclocked. The GTX 980 Ti reference board design supplies the GPU with 275 watts of power at the maximum power target setting of 110%.

The Classified also has a Fully Digital VRM.

Read above, where I explain that many times, as well as others explaining it.  Extreme overclocking requires chilled water (near sub zero temps), phase change, Dry Ice, Liquid Nitrogen or some other extremely cold method.

The 780 Classified came with waterblock, but the 780ti and beyond didn't have a custom made EVGA Hydrocopper block, just because the cost isn't feasible compared to the intended use.  They may bring it back in the future, which will be neat honestly.

The Titan is a limited NVidia brand high end consumer card that is NOT allowed to have custom PCBs.  The reference PCB is the only one authorized by NVidia, so every card in the titan variant is actually made by NVidia and distributed directly to EVGA then the customer.

This is known as a misprint.  Is that on the EVGA website? If so, they should be alerted so they can correct it.  I can't seem to find the picture or power phase listings on any card except the Classified from the site.  *Edit, Just found it.  This is what you are looking for.  Like I said, the one above is a misprint.

Only see that if you use the compare feature on the product page

GTX980Ti Classified have 8+8pin.
EVGA always install 8+8 pin on their custom models.
This 980Ti Classified is good if people want to save little but still want fast card for gaming.
They don't need to wait 980Ti K|NGP|N if gaming is priority.
Anyway 8+8 pin is enough for everything except LN2 in extreme situation.

I know this is the wrong place to ask but with the Classified, does the warranty expire if you overclock the GPU, also what about overvolting it.

Re: GTX 980 TI Classified 2015/07/02 09:46:29 (permalink)
Usually not, EVGA allow overclocking, but if you burn card with overclocking than you will need to buy another graphic card.
If you overclock with some normal voltage increase with official BIOS and EVGA Precision X than no problem.
If I'm wrong somewhere other people could explain better.

Usually guys who use custom BIOS, Classified Voltage Regulation Tools, LN2, Dice are in good financial situation and can afford to destroy some hardware.
And with some models situation is different... example K|NGP|N Classified, than EVGA sometimes allow some modification but such things mostly do someone famous on internet as hardware/overclocking experts and very small number of people. I think last year they allow hard mod on PCB to overpass NVIDIA voltage limitation.
But 95% of people don't know to make hard mod and it's stupid to learn soldering on 1000$ hardware.

So if you overclock without increasing the voltage, it will still be under warranty from EVGA

Yes, many people overclock here, if you pay attention on temperatures than no problem, because if NVIDIA driver will stop you and clock will drop if temp pass 85C.
other pay EVGA overclocked cards because they don't want to pay attention on software every time before game.
I'm among them. For me best possible thing is when you have fastest graphic card model out of box. I mean don't need to be fastest always. Because some small brands last years wait to EVGA launch card only to show later 10MHz faster model. EVGA can't wait to do that because many people ask their cards and they want graphics immediately and they have no time to wait someone who will make 200-300 cards because they lose money only and real fans will buy Classified even if she is 10-15 slower. But even if someone offer faster card it's not faster than 15MHz example. You will never find some model faster 50MHz than best EVGA, never.
Very small number of people buy reference card or some other model, overclock and play games on higher clock than some EVGA premium model.
They can finish benchmark tests but in 90% EVGA pull almost everything from Classified models for gaming. You can OC mostly for benchmark tests than.

Thanks, I will overclock both my GTX 980ti Classifieds when I get them without increasing the voltage for it.

I know this is the wrong place to ask but with the Classified, does the warranty expire if you overclock the GPU, also what about overvolting it.

you can fully overclock this card. It is meant to be beaten. You can increase the voltage, it is meant to be increased.  And you can warranty the card, as long as you don't take the beating part I mention earlier as using a hammer to beat the card.  :-P :-) I have RMAed a card that I had down to -72c, and increased the voltage as well as attempted to overclock the card (it died before I got to the overclock part... whoops).

Just do not physically damage the card and you will be fine.  Dropping the card, having a screwdriver slip and scratching the pcb would be physical damage.
